I finished reading 1984 for the first time earlier today...wow amazing, profound, and scary as fuck. I was extremley distraught as i read the last 50 pages.
Anyway i wrote this shortly after finishing it.
Neglect, nuerosis, narcism Negates the sunshine daydream Grinning faces, cynicism Electronic neo-fascist schism
Apathy, complacency, a new religion Free at last for another last supper Clip the wings of their ambitions Revised for pre-mature decisions
Introspection fleeting All thoughts self-defeating Defeaning silence, seal my fate Wipe away my consiousness We're really fucked now

I like that! 1984 was a great novel! Im readon Amusing Ourselves To Death right now and its pretty good so far. Im more concerned with out world turning into something like Brave Nw World. IT keeps getting closer and closer.

I just finished reading Brave New World like 45 minutes ago. What an amazing book so far ahead of its time.

orgy porgy!!!
And we are already at that point where we can dial in any emotion with different substances. A belt worn unit isn't fashionable enough yet.
And our social classes are pretty much defined the same way. And Jesus Christ...look at the Patriot Act!!

1984 is definitely one of my favorite books, and it's my birth year!
Awesome poetry, BTW!

thanks y'all. I realize some of it isn't really accurate with the story line but that because i wrote the first stanza for no reason then realized i should make it into a poem about 1984 but also keep it fairly ambiguous..
BTW, i was originally reading brave new world but i got about a chapter in and decided to read 1984 first, now i'm going to finish brave new world. I've been trying to read some of the classics that for some reason i never bothered to read before.

My friend owns a copy of brave new world. I only read the first chapter but it was very interesting and I wanted to read more.

1984 is a classis,
so is "down and out in paris and london", "coming up for air" and the political writings of george orwell.
"Amusing Ourselves To Death" I found to be total slop, complete baseless crap.

Animal Farm was a decent book too. What don't you like about Amusing Ourselves To Death???? I think it points out many things people would never notice.

Dude, that poem is awesome! I love the sound to the poem when you read it aloud and the rhyming in it was cool. I love writing poetry myself.
