I would rather live in a world where babies are grown in bottles, with class distinction already decided for them, and schools are mandatory State run facilities.

Then we'd have more time for promiscuous sex and dosing ourselves with narcotics.

Most public schools have some minimum requirement.  In New York I believe you need at least a masters degree to teach.

Private schools don't usually have such standards.  This is why they have nuns, and priests teaching, when they should be preaching.

I think public school teachers do just as much preaching with revisionist history that is so far from fact it might as well be religion.

I'm sorry but I don't remember anything about patriotism in my standardized tests! Standardized test are just that...standard! Theres a math section, and enlgish section, a science section... maybe a history section or something with patterns and word recognition but no If you were to be drafted would you A:serve in the army B: Join the marines C:Swim with the navy or D; move to Canada (if your answer is D please go directly to the principals office we need to talk to you and your parents!) LOL

The only test that requires you to even consider "patriotism or civic duty" is the asfabs and that is a military test! You don't even have to take it!!! It has no bearing on your education at all, other than if you plan to enlist and I'm pretty sure you're not going to!

He was probably referring more to learning the pledge of allegiance, and to a more concrete extent, taking a non-garbled version of US History.

The ASVAB has nothing to do with patriotism or civic duty. It's a standardized test that covers math, science, reading, writing, general mechanics, and pattern analysis.

It helps determine what your strong points are so you can enlist in the proper field.

Yeah but you take it because you want to enlist and do your civic duty! Taking the test just for shits and giggles is pointless and just wasting the time of whoever scored them!

You can't even say the pledge of allegiance in schools anymore! I remember when they stopped letting you sing the national anthem in class! I'm not un-patriotic or anything but I never said the pledge when I was in school!

US history is US History thats why its bias! If you want to learn french history study abroad! You'd be hard pressed to find a country that doesn't biased their history to make themselves look better! If you were a historian why would you want to point out that your country is a piece of shit?

Grade school is really a giant precursor to college. . . If any of what you've learned interests you then you take more intense college course on it. I mean in my high school classes we touched briefly on other countries huge events in history but its not like they went all out and gave you a play by play of France like they do of the United States.

I mean if you want to home school your kid and teach them more thats great, but there should be a bare minimum of things kids have to learn. The GED is like a compilation of the bare minimum of what kids should have learned in school. Hell they shouldve learned more but they have to set the bar somewhere. If you think it should be higher then lobby for that.

I just want to clarify that it wasn't ruled that the pledge of allegiance can't be said in schools, just that using the phrase "under god" in a public school was a breach of the separation of church and state.  So if your schools no longer say it, then it's only because they are butthurt religious douchebags.

Yeah but thats like taking the love out of "I LOVE YOU". . . "I... You" doesn't exactly mean the same thing... And our nation was founded under God because we were still part of England! My school also had to change our mascot from and indian to a lion because of butt hurt native americans! We didn't even have a queer cartoon guy we had an actual native american who was based on a merrimack tribe who founded the area!

The mascot deal is perhaps over the top.  There were four schools at a time several years back that had to change the mascot from indians to whatever, but that was out of pr problems, not a legal ruling.

As an atheist, I think we should be agreeing on this issue.  You're supporting homeschooling because you believe in less government involvement in personal lives.  Well how can you now turn around and say that the government should get involved in the religions of individuals, especially when the 1st amendment is so clear with it's stance on religious freedom?

Um yeah but you have to pay to go to those and they are private for the reason that they can do whatever the fuck they want not being state funded!
