A Broken Pressure Cooker, use Crock Pot?

Okay, well my pressure cooker is busted, I will repair when I buy a pack of high temp Jb Welds. In the meantime, I just received my print from a contest, and want to sterilize some brf agar.
Anyways, I was thinking, mix the brf agar up and pour into petri dishes, and let sit in crock pot over night at highest temp setting. Will this be adequate enough for sterilization? The pot gets pretty damn hot, and letting it sit in it for 8 hours straight might do the trick...
Any thoughts?

Steam sterilization similar to what the PF Tek describes might work. Hell, the microwave might even work, but I don't know how hot a crock pot gets. The ones I've seen were primaily used for cooking dishes for long periods of time over a relatively low heat. Either way, I use a PC, so I have no first hand advice to give.
Good luck...

well obviously (if i'm not mistaken) a crock pot isnt going to get above normal boiling temps... actually, i htink it even stays below that (tho I dont know much about them)... in no way woudl that be a replacement for a pressure cooker. But if the substrate can be sterilized at the lower temp, then it would work.

You're right mickey... A crock pot can't boil water to save it's life, at least not the one's I've used. I say fix the pressure and have some patience.

I wouldn't recommend trying to repair a pressure cooker. If it somehow cracked or something, it is probably garbage. It could end up bursting on you or something.

I can see it now. Just as it hits 15 lbs., a wad of J.B. Weld works lose and flies into your face, puncturing your eyeball..

Exactly guys!
I worked on boilers for years....actually 11 years. You don't want to be playing around with any kind of pressure vessels unless you know what the fuck you are doing. I'm a Certified Welder and I wouldn't bother fixing a trashed pressure cooker!!!
I'd hate to see someone get hurt or killed over messing around with one.
Be smart.....buy a used one that is in good condition and that you can get fairly cheap....Check on Ebay...they have alot of great deals right now!
take care....and be safe!

I dont know for sure, but I might be the only one here who's ever actually seen what happens when a PC blows... do NOT mess with it if it's broken!!! We used to have to get our PC's tested and cerified every year by the state every year (to sell canned goods), so they're no joke.
mind you I saw this when I was like 8, so that was 18 years ago, but it nearly took my mother's head off. Risk it?? naw

jb weld is a high strength epoxy. It's not metal. It dosn't mix with the metal, just sticks to it.
