Eckhart Tolle: "Being"
    #8951708 -

Well Eckhart Tolle is a popular one but mystics throughout the ages have claimed that if you can become aware that you are "being", an eternal "I am", then you have realized what you really are; the unmanifested. But is this realization not just a manifested, neurological state?

yes mental states,
fleeting ones
that can be rediscovered
he seems to have cultivated attitudes for rediscovery which are quite charming

So you say the eternal "I am" is a mental state, or an objective truth? If it is a mental state (well, at least neurological state), then it is a physical manifestation. But the realization is that you are really the unmanifested. Isn't there a contradiction?

That's because the "realization" is intellectual and emotional. We have a finite capacity to understand the infinite. Truly grokking the unmanifested is IMO impossible in the living state.

I'm not sure about "intellectual and emotional" but it takes place in the brain. The question is: is it fundamentally incorrect, due to its physical springboard?

Even worst, we have a finite capacity to understand a bigger finite, unless the latter is redundant. One cannot put in one-to-one correspondence two sets that don't have the same number of elements. Simple pigeon hole principle. At best our understanding of our universe is an homomorphism, but never will it be an isomorphism, that is one could only reproduce details of a painting in a crude way if one is using a bigger brush.

I would guess and bet the answer to be yes.

Any realization made by a human mind is ultimately just a neurological state.

It is neurologically encoded. That doesn't mean the realization is nothing but a neurological state. Physical and mathematical laws, for example, are neurologically encoded in anyone who perceives them. But that doesn't mean the neurological states do not point to a phenomena in objective reality.

To consciously recognize a state of "presence" as Tolle calls it would be to create a separation in ones self. Objectification of ideas will prevent you from integrating them. As long as ideas are considered objectively as "objects" separate from ones self...particularly ideas like presence, one cannot utilize them. It is better to let such ideas go.

The realization in question has nothing to do with the "idea" of realization; it has to do with the realization itself. I agree with your reply, but it doesn't answer the question.

You are aware of the sense I Am which places you before it, I Am is like the first reflection of the absolute unspeakable. Its the most potent force in this body as everything you do stands on I Am, focusing your attention on I Am is the best practice any human being can do, just try it & see how the attention wants to go onto some foreign external object, Why? Because your onto the biggest mystery in the universe!

If you want to solve the mystery, focus on the I Am.

It has every thing to do with it...the realization can never take place and be authentic.

I am speaking of an authentic realization, not an "idea" of realization. Eckhart Tolle's neurological state or yours of whoever you consider to be in tune with the eternal "being".

Lol...how do you know the realization is authentic? The whole idea of considering it objectively as a thing is ridiculous. You have already reduced it to an idea by discussing it as a thing.

What thing? You are the one that brought up a "thing". Do you claim the primacy of consciousness versus matter is an invalid question?
