Acyl is a good pick as is wiccan_seeker. Nalim seemed quite intelligent also, but I may be misremembering. Prisoner #1 is probably has a mildly high IQ, but he sure can be clever sometimes. Trippinteddy applies to that also.

I lean towards Wiccan_Seeker and Acyl.

I think intelligence is a measure of how quickly one can learn a skill (which includes problem solving) and how well one can integrate those problem solving skills.

I see popular posters who are straightforward, not particularly articulate, but since they post material that's generally agreed upon, people like their opinions and think they're smart.  On the other hand, some people are considered idiots just for being arrogant, harsh, etc. (eg. "he gave me a zero rating out of the blue and therefore is an idiot").

The problem, for me, in trying to evaluate who the smartest poster is according to my criteria is that I can't really have much way of knowing how quickly (Acyl or Wiccan_Seeker in my case) learned what they know.  All of those who have the potential to learn quickly and apply their skills, but either haven't been highly educated or don't post much, are overlooked.

I do think that being analytical and logical is a part of being intelligent, but this shouldn't be confused with being verbose and pretentious.

But what about the right-brained skills of creativity and intuition?

And as someone mentioned earlier in the thread, it can be hard to distinguish between someone being verbose and pretentious, or whether they're just being themself.  Some people have a large vocabulary, and don't necessarily filter it for the internet like they might in person.

The right brain can suck my right testicle.

I think creativity comes into problem solving.

Fuck intuition.  It's for niggers.

As for pretentiousness and verbosity, I'm not also trying to say that someone who is verbose and shows off their huge vocabulary is less intelligent than they 'sound' - just that this in itself is not necessarily a sign of intelligence.

I type very differently than I speak and I really think it's like a state-dependent learning thing.  For 15 years or more, sitting down and writing or typing means "serious work" (which means being analytical, logical and using precise words) while talking face to face is far more relaxed and informal.  Many of the things that come out of my mouth on a daily basis simply can't be conveyed by text (either because the rhythm can't be transmitted or because the songs I sing can't be translated).  With typing, I 'sound' very serious.  Speak to me in person and you'd think I'm one of the goofiest fuckers you've ever met.
