It's ok to have your feelings hurt sometimes. doesn't mean there's something wrong with P&S.
In case you haven't been reading, there IS something wrong with P&S. Its like the OTD for the Holier Than Thou, except unlike OTD these guys aren't playing.
Philosophers are the first people who ought to know that any philosophical stance is inherently unprovable, but these guys fight for intellectual supremacy like the Nihilist Fundamentalists they are.
For some of them it seems their "logic" is all they have, that that's the only language they grasp. They take beautiful concepts and break them down to the most depressing kinds of rationalizations and for them, that's all it is.
There is downright hating on beliefs systems and looking down on anyone who doesn't worship their god of Depressing Logic. Much of the threads there are circle jerks anyway, full of posts of the same people stroking the same egos over and over.
Thats not philosophy and its not debate, not like it should be.

Sometimes I like to read P&S, but akin to OTD, if you post a topic that may be somewhat off the straight and narrow, you'll get flamed/ganged up on. It's really just pathetic that people love doing that shit. I mean, you see some of the same people in there pushing their agenda month after month after month.....
That being said, there are a lot of good posters in there, not everyone is a douche. Just a lot of the guys who seem to "run" the forum.
As for a debate forum, fuck no. That's just dumb. Next we'll have a forum for better techniques on how to masturbate....

Oh my fucking god.
What do you find so offensive about LOGIC? About FACTS? Why does every little single fucking thing have to be couched in all kinds of fanciful terms and mystical mumbo-jumbo for you to feel comfortable?
Why can a bird flying across the sky just be a fucking bird, instead of some important symoblism that the Great God Vishnu has taken on his bird-form avatar and is now winging his way to the great Hindu Crystal to add your prayers to the over-flowing Hindu Bucket o' Devotion?
Everything in life is not some philosophical circle jerk. There is nothing wrong with dealing in FACTS. If you are uncomfortable with this, why not try hanging out at a pre-school where people are more in touch with their "fantastical" side.

I only made this post because I felt intuitive statements made on P&S occasionally (OCCASIONALLY) get more flak than they deserve, simply because they can't cite a source that agrees with personal observations, and that debate rapidly breaks down into absurdity. Most of the harsh rationality there is 100% justified and that's why I love it there. I'm not really that fussed about it either way and you'll notice I stay away from M&P, which is where you should go if you're seriously troubled by being told your personally imagined beliefs aren't logically sound. -Tchan909

I find logic abuse offensive. I hate seeing logic abused as a weapon. I also hate logic being put on the pedestal of being the Gospel Truth. We don't have the truth.

Nothing wrong, except nobody has the absolute truth, so everyone who has the "facts" and the "truth" and dismisses other peoples beliefs with it all are zealots.
Stop fighting each other to make your personal truth prevail. Its destroying the world.

I'm not a Hindu. Why conjure up this fantasy? Ah I see, your anti-religious sentiments have gotten you pissed off again.
Growling, snarling, hissing, roaring.. Don't use logic as a weapon to vent your aggression. And don't delude yourself by thinking you hold the absolute truth.

I use that example because its typical of the philosophical-mythological bullshit you people spew all the time.
If you really believe that nothing is true, and nothing is false, and everyone's point is equally valid then you can hide out in your little fantasy forum.
But you have to be able to look at that objectively and see that is nonsense.
How can you not agree that some things are FACTS? I don't understand this. Do you believe you exist, or not? Does 2 + 2 = 4 Or is it sometimes 5?
And yes, it makes me angry. I cannot stand people who bash science because they don't understand it. Don't tell me that nothing can ever be proven because *YOU* don't like the proof that is given. If every new idea had to be vetted with philosophers and mystics we'd still be living in caves while they argued whether or not fire really existed, and if it did, whether we could use it without upsetting the great Earth Deity, or some stupid bullshit like that.
Your path is one where they burned witches at the stake and murdered millions of people in the name of fear, superstition, and religion.
Why the hell would you advocate this position?
