Had an extra P azurescens syringe and tried this out in a pint jar 1Cup partially moistened coir,60mls or so dark maple syrup,1/2 teaspoon of oyster shell powder. So far the substrate is about 50% colonized and looks VERY healthy.I will be inoculating yet another outdoor site with it and am curious how it will compare with my alder chips.Peace WR

There is a tek where coir is used as substrate for shiitake:

I have had zero success with coir as a substrate for woodlovers (edibles and psilocybes) maybe there's something wrong with my coir....

coir works great for cubs long as you add enough nutrient. most coir goes outside because it holds so much nutrition it will fruit all season. Also it colonizes so tight that contams dont seem to have a chance(indoors is another story). I add flours(brf, drf, quinoa, flax), straw, amycel gold, and sometimes a dash of shit. This works great but moisture content can be very tricky. When it seems too dry there is still too much moisture in it. This cause the overly saturated interior to be contamed or just uncolonized which sucks. I dont think that maple syrup and coir will work though, but I have been wrong before. I know you may think coir has nutriton for a woodlover but it is very little thats why it is used for casing. But fuck it what do you have to loose a few cents of coir and honey? If it colonizes it might be good spawn but with the syrup seems like you would be asking for contams

So far it looks clean but it IS different from the alder chip spawn.far more fluffy and less ropey looking than a healthy alder colony.I'm givng it a little more time then I'll use it to inoculate an outdoor bed.The 60mls of maple syrup may have been too much and the mycelium may just be lazy from too rich a substrate. With so many teks out there that work this was just a lark.Peace WR
