What is the scariest movie you've ever seen?
    #8880014 -

...and does it still scare you now?

For me, it is probably The Ring. I saw that when I was 13 and it terrified me. I couldn't even watch the commercials after seeing it - always had to change the channel. It was just so relentless...I literally felt a sense of relief when the mom found the girl's body because I thought there would be a happy ending - but nope, it did a complete 180.

I saw it again the other day and it was still kinda creepy, but I can't see how it scared me so much. Ignorance is bliss I guess, eh?

The Shining scared the living shit out of me as a kid! The twin girls, the music, that huge htel with the psychedelic carpet, Jack Nicholson's psychosis all make this movie spook me pretty good.

Also, In the Mouth of Madness was pretty fucked up.

The Amytiville Horror(Original) still freaks me out. I get all spooked if I watch it by myself in a quiet house.

In theaters, Silent Hill scared me more than anything else ever has.  Me and my friends were terrified.
We were also stoned off our asses.
When I saw that movie on DVD, when I already knew what was going to happen, the screen wasn't huge, and there was no surround sound though, it was fucking weak.

The original Exorcist for starters.

rosemary's baby was unsettling. Not so much scary, just made me uneasy.

There is a French movie titled Irreversible that disturbed me greatly.

The moving hedges were in the book only. The wolf mask wasn't mentioned in the movie either, I don't believe. Still scary as hell, though.

The Ring

but really...last movie that really scared me was The Orphanage. it's all spanish, but the subtitles are well done and the special effects + sound are amazing.

setting is key though...gotta be in a dark room with good headphones/surround sound to really get scared.

they are definitely in the movie. not to the full extent as the book, but it cuts to them before each act. in the first two they are still, but when all hell breaks loose they start to move

They weren't animal hedges in the movie. Just a hedge maze.

Dude, you're thinking of the ABC miniseries version.

Stanley Kubrick's The Shining (to which people traditionally refer to) had neither the hedge animals or the wolf mask.

You are thinking about the ABC movie with Stephen Weber as Jack Torrence. It followed the book pretty religiously and aside from some cheesy moments, I thought it was much better than the Kubrick film.

As for the scariest movie for me. It was The Ring. I first saw it in theaters and it seriously gave the the creeps. I hadn't felt genuinely scared from a movie since I was a little kid so it was a new experience for me.

A few years later I ate a small dose of mushrooms and was chilling at home, flipping through channels when I came across HBO right when they were showing the video tape sequence with the fucking finger crawling around with the nail through it and all the sharp piercing sounds.

I spent the next three hours in absolute terror trying to get the images out of my head. It ended with me laying naked on my cold bathroom floor after an hour long shower (the water ran cold about 45 min into it but I didn't care, I just wanted to wash that shit out of my mind.

It was a horrible experience and I absolutely refuse to watch that movie again. It scares the shit out of me now.

Same thing happened to me when I played Neil Armstrong in Moonshot. They found me in an alley in Burbank trying to re-enter the earth's atmosphere in an old refrigerator box.

I watched it 2 days ago over lunch, but I might have missed it. It's weird though, because the friendd that I was having lunch with and I had a conversation about this very thing. I'll check it out. Regardless, they didn't play near an important part in the movie than in the book. Anyway, I'll def pay more attention next time.
