children interaction in public
    #8868362 -

I took my son to the park today.

He's almost two and he is a very hardy lad. He has perpetually scuffed up knees, plays with sticks, rocks, picks flowers, the whole bit. He and my Australian shepherd are practically inseparable.  Basically, he's a tough cookie.

So when I take him out to interact with other kids, I'm pretty liberal with what I let him do and who he can play with.

There were a few kids, probably three or four years of age, that he started playing with. They were chasing each other and climbing the structures, but at one point, this kid just pushes my son out of the way for no reason.

No big deal, in my opinion, he's got to learn that there are bullies and that kids are kids. But the kid's mom swoops out of nowhere and just plucks him up and walks away without a word.

What gives? Have we become so risk, germ, and lawsuit adverse that kids can't interact anymore? It feels like most parents are trying to raise Fabergé eggs rather than boys and girls.

*sigh* I wish that this isn't true every day.
I have two little brothers, aged 5 and 2, and I am appalled by how my father and step-mother treat them.
Always with Kid Gloves, never letting them do anything that kids should, and of course never punishing them, only threatening them with punishment.
It pains me to see my brothers raised this way, but what can I do?
Sorry for talking so much about myself, but I couldn't help it; your 2 year old sounds just like my little brother, just a total bruiser.

It really amazes me every time I take him to play. It seems like so much has changed since I was a boy.

Now it feels like people just plop their kids in front of the TV until school starts and they can dole out the ADD meds to keep them quiet.

What happened? What created this mode of thought? just parental self-importance?

Maybe the mom just thought her son was being an ass and took him out of the game to prevent anything, I agree with the kids will be kids but it still sucks when yours is the bully

if yours is the bully then you arrange for him to get his ass kicked.

and the kid learns.

Its my understanding that thats largely because of the use of plastics and pregnant women using makeups.
Many compounds in plastics (which hold many of our foods, and drinks) mimic estrogen, and when they build up in males (by leeching out of plastics into water, juice, or foods), or pregnant females, they can cause penile deformities and hormonal imbalance.

There's been a bunch of studies on effects of chemicals in plastics on male development lately.

exactly, just like having my son pushed is an opportunity to learn to either push back or let it go.

Keep it up Crasher. Annoys me how we're raising the people who are going to be tackling some of the biggest issues of human history, yet we're wrapping them in cotton wool.

P.S. Are you Aussie? I haven't heard on an Australian Sheppard? We have German Shepard's in Aus lol

There are also theories about all of the food animals being pumped full of hormones to make them grow quickly to get to market faster as being a reason for weird hormone abnormalities in growing children....

Scary stuff....

She's half aussie half german Shepherd, apparently they're only Australian in name, not origin. Spunky as hell.
