In theory you're right but I think you're exaggerating a bit. Of course you can't feed everyone. But you can teach people to hunt/grow/gather their OWN food and you can certainly help to feed starving people.

What you say may be very true, around cities in the days following the "disaster". But in any doomsday scenario such as this I would be way the fuck out in the country, as far away from cities as possible. Because while yes, hordes such as this would probably exist.. they would be centered around cities mostly, and those that cannot get their own food and would resort to raiding other people would not last very long in reality. They would almost all either die off from their own devices, or learn to function in a community and provide their own food. That's how nature works. In either case, my camp is not going to be on the outskirts of New York City.. which would probably be underwater anyway.

It's not always eat or be eaten. But regardless, I would feed hungry people if I had food to spare. But I certainly wouldn't feed people food I didn't have it to give them, we must survive. But it would be a group effort, and we would make it work so that everyone was taken care of-  so I wouldn't just go around shooting everyone in the head that asked for some fruit. That's not a reality I'm familiar or comfortable with.

and not so concerning the asteroid and nukes, depending on size and location there is still a good chance many will live, and if not many then some.

assuming bandits travel alone, wouldn't it be something like this?

bandit: "give me your food, i have a gun"
you: "no, i have a gun also"

and then you both try and kill each other.  you really think you could do this more than a couple times and not be the one shot?  like you're going to be a magic gunfighter?

thats assuming bandits travel in groups of one.
