Is bottled water sterile?
    #885176 -

It says on the bottle that its purified. I was just wondering if I could stab a bottle with a syringe suck up the water and use it to make a spore syringe.

Hmmm, it SHOULD be more or less sterile, yes.

The bottle OUTSIDE is likely not.(for sure not, actually). Report your results.

From that link: "Note: like tap water, bottled water is not sterile for use in preparation of infant formula. Both types of water must be boiled to be sterilized. When preparing formula, follow the instructions on the formula product or as directed by a physician."

I agree.

Don't know what kind or brand of bottled water -- you have?

But, most spring type bottled water is not sterile. It is simply filtered -- some more -- some -- less.

About as "close" as you can come to sterile with "inexpensive" store bought bottled water is DISTILLED water.

Which, usualy can be purchased at any large chain grocery store, for under $1 per gallon.

No , not at all . Yes bottled water is much cleaner than tap water , but is not sterile . Some companies use ultraviolet light to kill bacteria in water , but this does not make it sterile . I am in med field so I know , I use true medically sterile water in 250ml bottles , you can just boil the piss out of bottled water to get it as close to sterile as you can . AUTOCLAVS are great for this , but not many people have one at their dispossal .
Good luick

Well,

If you really want "sterile" water?

And, have an AA type PC (older or newer). You can remove the safety pop/off & replace with a threaded on both ends brass fitting - to copper tubing - to a brass valve & a copper tubing coil - running into any sterile container - rigged with any type positive pressure relief.

In effect, you have created an old fashioned "still".

You fill the AA with 3/4 full w/water. Heat & sterilize it & after a while allow (open the valve on the tubing - a tiny bit) the steam to escape into the tubing (where it cools into water - again) & vents into the clean contained.

You now have a container of sterilized & distilled water.

I would not attempt this -- unless your REAL SURE about WHAT your doing.
