Yeah. I had one similar to that virus. Formatting is (imo) the easiest way to get rid of it. Back up all your important files IF you KNOW they aren't infected.

WTF? Worst advice ever.

Run system restore. If the malware is stopping you from accessing system restore, then reboot into safe mode and do it. If that doesn't work, or if you have system restore disabled for some reason, then just remove the malware manually using these instructions.

99.999999% sure this worked! i'll get a feel for my computer over the next couple days to make sure there are no overlapping problems.

You asked if you'll lose any files: you shouldn't, it doesn't touch your user files. System Restore = easiest thing ever.

in order of what you should do to fix your computer:

ewido micro scanner (optional mal/spy ware buster)
hijackthis
ATF cleaner
msconfig and clear startup

reboot.

yeah I still feel reinstalling is the easiest, and surest way to rid your computer of any virus.. But yeah, I got NOD32 now, and damn that shit works well!!!
