You may have missed my huge ongoing thread last summer, but there was a company that bought the couple of acres next to where my office was at my former employer's place, and they put up a fence around the property. After construction of their new warehouse and office space, they put in a row of bushes around the property, and put mulch down in this bed. Also, one of the apartment complexes I did work at put new mulch down around the trees on the property. Then in June, it rained all month long.

Without the extremely hot sun and the nice high humidity all month long, I basically picked mushrooms out of those beds for 30 days or so. It was not an outdoor grow made by anyone with any purpose, just the luck of the manured mulch, and my being in the right places with my "shroomdar" (remember, I spotted gyms in a median at 40 MPH). At first, I couldn't believe that I found cubes at the apartments, because I was booting Chlorophyllum molybdites for grins and went across the parking lot scanning for another green gills to kick. Saw the first cubes and just about shit myself... looked around at more beds and found more, plus some that were obviously growing before the mulch was shoveled into place. They were buried in the mulch and beat up. Anyway, I hit that complex a few more times, took my infamous "cubes with police cruiser" photo there, and had a nice little haul from that spot.

One day, I pulled into the parking lot at the office, and spotted the cubes in that bed I talked about earlier, that was around the fenceline. That's where the fairy ring and the "monster" pics were taken. It was a good month. I picked over 100 cubes from those beds, and I left plenty there to sporulate, but they never produced again after about two months.

Well, incredible haul anyway.  That really sucks the clone didn't make it.

well, I cloned it, shot it into a BRF cake, and it stalled. Then, the jar with the BRF got wet, and it colonized.

I thought the colonization was a contam, so I stuck it outside in a potted plant under the soil. Something ate it... or it decomposed... or something.

I probably could have fruited it in my FC and got more clones from it. I still have a bit of dried myc in the jar that i popped the cake out of, and I'm going to try, since it didn't contam, to rehydrate and transfer it to either an LC or a petri dish. There is a slight glimmer of hope for the genetic material of that monster, but it's slim.

if anyone wants to help, I'm open to suggestions... or materials.

I think it is worth pursuing.  I know environmental factors play a role in the size/potency of mushrooms, however, genetics also play a role as well.  I am glad to hear you are pursuing it.  I think you should post a thread in one of the forums more suited for such a project.  Advanced Mycology might be one.

this chicken of the woods cluster was so heavy, i was straining myself getting it in the backseat of our car.

and i only took half the cluster home, if even that...

the mushrooms is Macrocybe titans was found last year .
