i dont really think i can find vermiculite around my area, and i found that i cant use perlite as a substitute for verm in rice cakes. so my question is can i use cork? because vermiculite is supposed to let air in and out, this was just a thought, let me know what you think.

If you have a PC, try using whole grains. I have no problems finding vermiculite, so I can only pass on what I've read in the forums. If I'm not mistaken, people have used coir as a substitute for vermiculite in BRF jars. You might want to try a search of the forum for more information.
Peace

give it a try...I don't think cork would have the nutrients needed like verm does

Well, verm doesn't have any nutrients. It is in the BRF jars to retain moisture and keep things loose and airy. I suppose cork could work, but once again, I have no experience with anything other than verm in a BRF jar.

Yeah, break it up, mix with the substrate you are using and then pc or boil (whichever you prefer). Same as verm.
