i just got a ticket 4 talkin on the cell fone while driven

the gayest part is
is that i only answered the phone to tell the person that i couldnt talk cuz i was driving :thumbdown:

I normally just have my phone out of my pocket so I can easily ignore the vibrating. If they really wanna talk to me they'll leave a message, either txt or voice.

It sucks that you were trying to do the right thing though. How much was the ticket?

he said it was only $20 +court fees so it should b less than a hundred

this is all about responsibility
why should good drivers be punished because some newbs cant drive n talk
they dont give girls tickets 4 putting on makeup
i thnk thats more dangerous while driving

Sorry to hear. I know a couple people who have gotten tickets too.  I think the law is lame and ridiculous.  I wonder, do you get points on your license for this?  If so, you may want to try to fight it since points=higher insurance rates.  I heard, at least for speeding tickets, if you fight them the cops don't even show at court half the time.  They have a lot of other stuff to attend to.

the law is not lame and ridiculous, it has been proven that driving while talking on a cell phone is a distraction and causes MANY accidents.  Its not really the talking that causes the accidents though, but the changing of your focus off the road, onto your phone to press whatever, then back to the road, by the time this is all said and done a second or two has passed, and at 70, that is quite a distance.

I am fucking happy states are starting to pass this law, and can only hope mine is soon to follow.  While i do believe that people shouldn't need laws for things like talking on the cell phone and wearing seat belts while driving since it is common sense.  It has already been shown here in this post, and many other places everyday, that this would be impossible due to the levels of common sense most of america's citizens really have.

From what I've read, its far from proven that the act of using a handset itself increases accident rates.  There is some correlation, but no more than what is seen with hands-free phones (still legal to use while driving in CA) and simply carrying on a conversation with a passenger.  I think a more sensible law would be something similar to what some states have enacted, which states something along the lines of, if you're doing anything while driving that compromises your attention and/or ability to control the vehicle, whether its eating, talking on the phone, reading (unbelievably, some people do this!), putting on makeup etc, and you cause an accident, you will be held negligent/ it will count as an aggravating factor.


I agree tho, talking on the phone while driving can be tricky.  Like up-shifting or down-shifting around a curve while shouldering the handset.  It can be a bitch.

I passed through that state once. People driving motorcycles with no shirt or helmet. I can only imagine no seatbelts. I felt super safe with my belt. :smile:

i almost died the other day cause some dude was on his cell phone chatting away and didnt see me in front of him

somehow with some crafty movements i avoided having his car slam into my door at about 50mph, which in a little oldskewl car probably would have killed me

wether or not your just picking up your phone to say you cant talk or not, it dont matter! its still distracting.
and while some people can handle it, MOST cant!

makeup should fall under the same law, and so should bratty ass little kids and couples that fight.
you know how many accidents i almost died in cause some bitch was swabbing her fat face with whale fat? or how about the soccer moms bitch slapping their bratty ass little kids swerving into oncoming traffic.
or the woman who decides shes fed up with her boyfriend on a traffic jam and slams into your bumper causing you injury, and then takes it out on you cause shes pissed at her boyfriend.

people dont know how to drive and im about fed up with almost dying.
the next time i get in a somewhat serious fender bender, and its not my fault, ima rip them out of their car and rearrange their face.

keep that in mind next time your on your phone driving :smile:

Yeah I think the law is ridiculous b/c like mofo said hand-free sets are still legal.  You pull up to somebody driving shitty and you'll see them chatting away to nobody else in the car.  I think most of them are on the phone.  Some Im not so sure.


And I really think this is all a ploy by the state of CA to squeeze its citizens for cash.
