I dont know if im redefining words rather than giving my opinion, but since you asked

illegal killing = taking the life of another person against their will; murder

legal killing: murder sanctioned by the government for multiple reasons

abortion is not included because the argument as to whether a group of cells is a person or not is pretty controversial and a different debate alltogether; nor can you include taking the life of a person who is willing his or her own death, because it is not considered legal, though probably should be

Killing him was a just option and I laughed my guts out when I learned he went under :syringe:

Well, as long as you are redefining words... What word do you use for killing that is legal vs illegal?

I wouldnt say we are redefining words here... just wording the definitions differently.

According to dictionary.com
Quote:
1. Law. the killing of another human being under conditions specifically covered in law. In the U.S., special statutory definitions include murder committed with malice aforethought, characterized by deliberation or premeditation or occurring during the commission of another serious crime, as robbery or arson (first-degree murder), and murder by intent but without deliberation or premeditation (second-degree murder).
2. Slang. something extremely difficult or perilous: That final exam was murder!
3. a group or flock of crows.
–verb (used with object)
4. Law. to kill by an act constituting murder.
5. to kill or slaughter inhumanly or barbarously.

It really just depends on which definition you want to use. If you want to use it as "to kill or slaughter inhumanly or barbarously" - then a lot of acts in war could be considered murder. And I'm sure anyone here could think of other situations where this applies as well.

I think a society without the death penalty is uncivilized!  Sometimes death is the only truly decent form of punishment in a society bound by 'civilized' laws.  But that just my opinion on it, and I've always been a huge supporter of the death penalty.

But I always get a kick out of the people who say that life in prison is a worse punishment.  They hold their head up all noble-like and in a pompous voise proclaim  "I'd much rather be executed then spend my life in prison!".  In the meantime every fool out there on death row is appealing his sentence trying to get it overturned to a life-in-prison instead.  Its easy to talk shit until you are faced with your own execution!  And to say you'd choose death over life is a ridiculous argument that holds no water when it comes from someone who never had to make the choice.

Your definitions dont work man.  You define illegal killing as 'murder', but then use 'murder' to define legal killing as well.

Make it easy, call legal killing 'X' and illegal killing 'Y'.  Is what the executed person did X or Y?  Is what the executioner did X or Y?  You see they are two different things.

Note that whether a killing is legal or not, that is whether it is murder or not has nothing to do with what you or I consider right or wrong.  Murder is just a word to describe a certain kind of killing.  Its good to have lots of words to describe various nuances.  If we reduce all killing to murder that is in effect implementing 'new speak'.

I disagree. I specifically used murder in both cases to shwo that even though it is Legal, it isn't right. Just because the government says well this is ok because we say it is, it is still murder, Youre still taking the life of another person who doesnt want to die, youre just doing it with the immunity of government power.

Meth is legal, and meth is illegal.
Pot is legal, and pot is illegal.
murder is legal, and murder is illegal.

its not my definition. People of different countries can have different definitions too.

And my arguments here isn't about the legal perspective. I'm not asking if it's legally murder or not, I'm asking for personal beliefs here. So using what the court systems define as legal killing or illegal killing doesn't hold any credulity

I dont think its as simple as naming variables, such as X or Y. Thats like forcing the law for an equation into a simpler form. It might work on a very basic level, but the second you get a complex situation the law will fail.

thats why there is such a persistent opposition between pro/con proponents for capital punishment. There really isnt a solid law that works for this issue, its all subjective, beyond what the law dictates

LOL, the article says the Mexicans were up in arms because we didn't give them a chance to speak to the Mexican consul.

Fuck that, those Mexicans oughta be thanking Texas for taking out the trash with this one. "Never harbor hate", real pretty words coming out of a rapists mouth.
