metaphorically speaking this is true. but lets be serious here... were not talking about someones eye. We're talking about rape and murder. if you can draw something such as "an eye for an eye and the world goes blind" using rape and murder... then im all ears...or rather, eyes.

I agree.  Its a trite saying with little relevance to practicality.  Most of the people in the world do not commit violent crimes, so the whole world would not 'go blind'.

We're talking about society punishing people here.  If you want to involve personal experience and feeling, carry out your own justice.  I quite literally sometimes do wish that I could go to prison.  If you can't see how some people don't view it as an effective punishment, and more of a vacation, then I can't explain it to you.

Note: I've already expressed my views on the death penalty here before.  This was meant as a "last words" post.  Oh well.

I know it's easier said than done, but if done correctly an eye for an eye shouldn't make the world go blind. It's when people start one-upping the last person that shit gets out of hand.

People cost money to keep them in jail. Far more then their output or license plates. Kill 'em, who gives a fuck, they are a burden to the world if we allow them to exist.

well it depends on where you're coming from. If you're a bum on the street/homeless then its a saving grace. Free food and drink... television, shelter, etc. If you're some person who got into a car accident and killed someone by accident, it'll be hell. If you're the type of person that would fit in with that type of scene, then it wouldn't be as bad.

like i said, depends on where you're coming from, and what lands you in jail. Raping a little girl won't be good in prison. Molesting a little kid... youre done... say goodbye to your asshole.

I've always taken that saying to be symbolic. It's not literally "an eye for an eye."

The way I see it is if you have someone who murders and rapes, you have to have another person to rape/murder that person, then someone to murder/rape that person, then... you get the point. At some point the eye for an eye system fails.

Lol, Bas is the shit.

i think this guy got off easy, i also think he should've been raped and strangled himself, maybe castrated and sliced up a bit before the strangulation, too.

an eye for a head leaves a bunch of good one-eyed people to keep the world a decent place.

Personally I disagree with that, but to each their own.

Death penalty is essentially an eye for an eye. They took a potentially productive member of society's life and in turn they are killed.

So as i see it..

Murderer is gone..but they wern't helping anyone.
And a productive member of society is gone.

Society: -1

The wrong doer should have to fill the shoes for society of the person they took through one way or another. Make 'em work their asses off doing productive yet menial work all day long in jail, every day, for the rest of their lives.

Edit: Of course that's just my opinion!

somewhat agree with you. arent the prison systems supposed to be rehabilitative (in theory). Why would it not be possible for a man who was once on death row for rape and murder when he was 18 to be let back into society if he had truly reformed after 15 years?

Bleh.. it is a ding against society. this is the best we can do to appease everyone, is seek vengeance for the wrongs of others.

By definition it is not, because murder is killing that is illegal.

not looking for the definition, do You think it is?

Of course it is. It involves taking the life of another person who probably doesnt want to die.
THAT is murder

There is a reason we have different words, murder and killing... they mean different things.

Of course not all killing is murder.  Capital punishment, self-defense, war... all of which involve killing, but not murder.

Re: If I Were Executed, These Would Be My Last Words [Re: DieCommie]

I would think that anytime a persons life is taken against their will it is murder. If they had allowed for their life to be taken beforehand, say by joining the army, then technically it would not be murder even though they did not want to die. They knew that they were giving their life away before it happened. I guess you could say this with someone who commits murder because it is known that you could get the death sentence for committing such an act. Thus he knew what he was potentially getting himself into, his death cant be viewed as murder.

Morally, as a humanist, I think it is.

Well, as long as you are redefining words... What word do you use for killing that is legal vs illegal?

Ehh, I kind of disagree here. A lot of people don't think about the consequences when they do something. It's only after they have committed the crime do they then think "oh shit... im fucked" - i do it all the time. I act on impulse and think afterwards. It's gotten me into quite a bit of trouble too. Luckily I've never killed anyone but still...

I guess the argument here can be made for the fact that capital punishment is only a consequence of first degree murder, that is, premeditated murder. In which case they thought about what they were going to do. The question here is, did they not realize they could face capital punishment? Or did they?

Based on the "Definitions" posted above, this is a thin line on whether or not they knew they were potentially giving away their life.
