truffle
    #8703685 -

I was picking some berries when I noticed a peppery smell.  I looked down, and this is what I found...

habitat:near berry briars.

I think it may be a Hysterangiam separible.

peridium is white/bruising pink/brown.
gleba is indigo blue and spongy rubbery.

It's a puffball, not a truffle. Cactu is in the right vicinity.

I've found these before!  Beware, many species of Scleroderma are very toxic.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking.

And like uarewotueat said, truffles typically grow underground. I'm not aware of any that grow above ground, but then again I'm not very well versed with truffles.

They find truffles down south that may be poking up above ground a tiny bit, just barely being able to see the tops of them. All of the truffle cross sections that i've seen also have a beautiful, marble looking flesh to them.
