Easy onion soup.
    #8698897 -

Ingredients:

4 yellow onions thinly chopped
1 garlic clove finely Chopped
4 cups chicken stock
salt and Pepper to taste
2 tbsp flour
4 tbsp butter

Method:

Heat the butter in a pan and add the onions, fry them till really brown.
When the onions are brown and soft add the garlic and fry for few seconds.
Now add the flour stir very nice ( i use the flour just to make the soup a little thick).
Add the chicken stock and the salt and pepper.
add water to make soup thinner to your liking unless is is good where its at. stir well and cook for 10 minutes.
If you want you can serve the soup with toasted bread with melted cheese on it.

MMMMMMM YEAH!

Well, I have to admit I always saute garlic before adding onions and I never ever cook onions until brown.  But until I give this a try I can't say it's wrong.

no wine or beef stock.. so yeah its onion soup, just not french onion soup. and yeah the key to good onion soup is getting a nice carmelization on the onions.

In traditional onion soup, the onions are caramelised. It gives the soup a sweeter, and more savoury taste.

It's absolutely declious when done right.

I would just like to add about the bread, using a toaster oven.
Toast a piece of italian bread or french bread.
Put the toasted bread in the soup and add the cheese.
Put it all under the broiler in toaster oven untill the cheese is melted.

Also you can add one or two beef cubes to the chicken broth to up the
flavor some...

I saw an episode of "Good Eats," with Alton Brown where he talked all about french onion soup. One trick with the bread is to take the bowl, turn it upside down and punch out the bread to make it fit perfectly. He said carmelization is best achieved through low temp and long cooking. He used one of those black/nonstick squarish electric pans that have sloping but steep sides and a cover...I dunno what they're called though.

I'm definitely gonna give this a try...sounds pretty simple.
