What it would be like to be truly poor (taking life for granted.)
    #8676041 -

Lately ive become very annoyed with the beggers here in Iquitos, Peru - just intolerence because of my bad San Pedro trip..

(i mean, i bought food and handed it out to the beggers in La Paz.)

But -

It would really suck to be 10 and living on the street without shoes in a 3rd world country with no public healthcare, welfare, or social justice at all.

or

Being 4, working for your dad all day and late into the night, yelling out bus directions with your tiny voice + knowing you were going to grow up unprivledged and without oppurtunity to ever leave...

it would also suck to live in a country with live mine fields, or be live in adobe and be uneducated your whole life.

Ive even been angerly stomping past the pleeding man without Legs, begging in a wheel chair, making motions of "money for food please."

Hey, 36 hours left in Peru and i am treated to uncontrollable and constant liquid diarhea - Can you say KARMA.

sadly ive started taking antibiotics yet again (2nd time in 6 weeks) (my body SHOULD be adapted to the bacterias down here by now, and this is more than loose stool... - im not taking a chance of having an untreated bacterial infection over my 17 hour flight, nor do i have time to wait around for expensive dianosis and treatment in Canada - oneday ill probably get neumonia and be "resistant" to the antibiotic they treat me with...) - *sigh.*

I am extremely greatful that *sperm meets egg* between my parents, in middleclass Canada + you should probably be greatful for your upbringing too.

but fuck, the music here is horrible too!

Its sad, very sad to be honest. I walk by them, and try to ignore them in whatever way that I can to pretend to not notice them. In the states I don't really feel bad for them...They have so many government funded programs that could help them get on their feet. Get in school, or whatever else it is they want to do.

The 3rd world countries aren't the same, and I wish the countries would join together and fight it. But they don't they are too busy fighting one another.

Im flying and staying in miraflores tonite actually.

However, trying to avoid them isnt the point - the point i that they exist in the first place and its really harsh.

I cannot imagine having no legs and being in a wheel chair in Iquitos (the side walks are uneven, the toilets often dont have seats, transport couldn´t accomodate a wheel chair, etc.)

true MHBound- i have friends (used to have lots) who fly signs in intersections, and even squeegee in Canada. I cant stand it.. they are privledged and more or less rich white kids who fucked off from their parents house and live off other peoples charity - its pathetic.

My own time hitchhiking and train riding in the States showed me just how UNGREATFUL most bums are that live off of missions (i went to only a few + what a horrible experience.) at this one place in ... atlanta (?) - men were drinking 40´s waiting for the christian mission to open, literally pissing on the doors. and at another started by a christian women who won the lottery, people were selling crack and heroin everywhere inside this massive facilitiy that feeds close to a thousand people a day...

I dont help support people like this either, but over here... its just sad.

In the cosmic game it is such "chance" that we were born with the circumstances that we have..

Reading Bruce Perrys book - TRIBE (from the bbc tv series) - some indiginous people hanging onto indiginous ways of living in the jungle said they didnt want to know about where he came from, or what the outside world was like - because they were happy where they were. (these were people who had no technology or system of trade with the outside world. isolated completely.)

So this precludes; poverty is only bad in a commerce based society (and i witnessed this in the subsistence lifestyle of the Altiplano in Bolivia)

Its a tough call too - the guide books tell you not to take pity on the begging children as it teaches them a lifestyle of begging, but ive seen with my own eyes this one kid sleeping face down late at night on the sidewalk with nothing but the clothes on his back.

Tough life!

Ironically the people in the jungle who let me stay with them, essentially lived in a raised shack and lived primarily subsistance with domesticated chickens and jungle fruit... - they seemed to have very little need for commerce, and were very happy and the most charitable ive ever met.
