do you think if you were to clone that would still have it, not that you would want that but would it keep the trait. or what if you took a little bit of the myc on top of the cap and grew it out on agar, would you get some crazy isolate ?

That is happening to my whole tub of PE.  Although I am concerned about it.  I can't see any contams, although it does smell more earthy and less shroomy.  If you can find out what this is please let me know.  I have searched around here and the web for similar pics but found nothing.  The only thing that looks close is verticilium.  Verticilium has other symptoms that are not present though.

OK beengonetoolong is having the same thing happen to his pins.  What causes this?  I thought it was too high humidity.  I upped the FAE, as he did, with no change.  WTF?  Things are ugly.  Glad I don't grow to sell, not many would want to buy these looking like that.

Also the ones I have seem to stop growing completely once the myc takes over the caps.  Acting like an abort but without the black cap.

Yeah ac you can see from my picture the caps are about to open on thoes. The smaller pins on the other side of the tub have this as well. Obviously its mycelium but I dont know why its doing that. I guess if they are going to start to abort and have stunted growth I am a bit concerned.

Another note, my casing wasnt near where it should have been before inducing fruiting conditons. I dont think too high of humidity would cause this because my other tubs are doing fine.

I picked 5 gnats out of the air today. Perhaps this is the mushrooms defense against the invaters...?

its due to high humidity, but you cant get rid of it by fanning more, you need to start out by fanning regularly.

There is a fan on high in the room 24/7. The other tubs are ok?

Are you saying that the rest of the fruits I get will look like this?  That f-in blows!  I had a fan running in the room 24/7.  WTF?  There were a few gnats in my tub to.  They were all flying around the top though, like they were trying to get out, not eating the mushrooms.  Not sure how they got in.  Oh well, I guess better luck next time.  It's almost done it's second flush anyway.

Is there a specific name for this problem?

Well wait a minute, I seriously doubt its a rH problem considering mushrooms flourish in high humidity. If you had gnats and I had gnats, maybe thats the problem. I would like to hear from the others experiencing this problem as well as some of the mods

I have had this happen to me,admitting it looks bizarre it caused me no problems and I believe is not caused so much by too high of humidity in the air but more like too moist of a casing making more mycelium grow up the stalks of the mushrooms

I honestly agree with the high humidity thing, my tubs look 10x better today after making some adjustments, but I think its a combination between being overwatered and high humidity, I added a bunch of holes with polyfill, you should see them today, they are taking off very good now.  I was worried for a while that my pins were going to abort.  Looking great today.

Found this on Wiki-

In houseplants the presence of fungus gnats may indicate overwatering. They may be feeding on roots that have sat in drain water too long and are rotting or may be attracted to fungus growing in saturated top soil. Typically draining the excess water from the plants drain pan and allowing the soil to dry will eliminate them. Fungus gnats are typically harmless to healthy plants, while their presence can be indicative of more serious problems.

Kinda goes along with what Blutjager said about too moist casing layer.  Just looked at my tub and I noticed some standing water underneath the plastic bag.  Seems like this is the problem, for me anyway.  I can't believe there was that much water down there.  I only misted after fully colonized until I saw the first pins.  No misting after pins, and I didn't dunk between flushes.

I drilled a drain hole and drained the water but I think it is probably too late to save this tub.  Live and learn. 
I guess the standing water could have been caused by the large amounts of condensation I had on the sides of the tub, likely due to too high humidity.

damn that sucks... whered the gnats come from? Don't leave food out and wipe everywhere... I'd hate that cause those fruits right there would look real bomb once they were dried and clean since they're not contamed.

I know what you mean about them looking sweet. The actually started to wilt and bruise like they were dying. I dont ever leave food out and I keep my area clean.

Im not worried abour contams since the tub is fully colonized and the casing properly pasteurizes. There is more then enough knotting but no pins due to the water. Should have a decent pinset here soon.
