weird smell and nothing colonizing?
    #1410565 - 03/26/03 07:18 AM (13 years, 8 months ago)

alright, this is my second time growing and its not going so good. a friend of mine and i decided to grow out some cambodians and orissa indias. the problem is that we have a weird smell coming from the jars. when i grew out some koh samuis before, i never had weird smells, just earthy scents. but anyways, the cambodians and indias haven't even started to colonize. i took my old koh samui syringe and sucked up some filtered brita water, and shot up some leftover substrate, and even though that has the worst stink to it, it seems to be colonizing real fast. any ideas as to whats going on? what is the smell, its sorta a rotten/old bread smell? i can't see any contamination, so will the smell possibly just go away? i can give you guys details about our setup if its needed, but if you can pinpoint our problem it would be appreciated greatly. oh yeah, what are the chances of getting some bad spores? that almost seems possible becuase the cambodians and indias aren't doing anything, but the koh samuis are.

new spores (cambodians/orissas) - doing nothing and stinkin
over a year old spores (koh samui) - colonizing quick and stinkin the worst (no sterilization)

well i'm done with my rambling, any help is appreciated. thanks.

Yeah if anything smells bad it is contaminated.

yeah, dont think i'm stupid when it comes to this. i'm just confused. the cambodians and orissas were all sterilized by boiling. the koh samui was just a fuck around thing. i didn't even expect to get anything from it. we just used brita water because we felt it would be better than the water from the sink. the koh samui is completely seperated from everything. i wasn't expecting to get a killer cake outta that, like i said, we were just fuckin around with that one. i was assuming that the smell was contamination. just seeing if anyone knew what exactly the smell was from so i know for future reference. i'm just really confused because the koh samui is going quick and we did absolutely nothing to it whereas the other 2 strains aren't doing shit and they went through the proper sterilizing process. well thanks for replying so quickly, you didn't quite give me the answer i was looking for, but thanks anyways, i appreciate it.
