Jeeepers, heh, well if this thread pertained to say finding cubensis then I would be like "buh-bye". BUT all Tampanensis that we know today is in circulation from a single specimen that Pollock collected back in the late 70's/early 80's... We don't really have alot in terms of the full spectrum this mushroom has to offer and we almost lost it last year. Workman actually revived a print that someone found that was 10 years old, the strain had been cultured so much it went through senescence. There's no telling if you've actually found tampanensis because no one has found it since Pollock originally discovered it. The sclerotia(or rocks) for typically around the grass. Here's some pictures off workman's site and a link to his tampensis page.

These are of the revived strain: http://www.sporeworks.com/images/newest%20tamp/closetamp.jpg http://www.sporeworks.com/images/newest%20tamp/tampgood.jpg http://www.sporeworks.com/images/newest%20tamp/tamp1.jpg http://www.sporeworks.com/images/newtamp4.jpg http://www.sporeworks.com/images/newtamp1.jpg http://www.sporeworks.com/images/newest%20tamp/tamptall.jpg http://www.sporeworks.com/images/newest%20tamp/tamptall2.jpg

Some Pictures of Tampanensis Sclerotia: http://www.sporeworks.com/images/sclerotiaharvest1.jpg http://www.sporeworks.com/images/sclerotiaharvest2.jpg

Here's picture of the old strain that was cultured too much: http://www.sporeworks.com/images/comote.jpg http://www.sporeworks.com/images/comote2.jpg http://www.sporeworks.com/images/comote3.jpg

And here's a link to workman's tampanensis page: http://www.sporeworks.com/tampanen.html

Once again, Workman did a great job at saving a strain from almost being lost(he actually was the only one able to obtain any spores from the degenerating strain, and had been cleaning up that strain alot).

so with rye grass its possible to acheive the formation of sclerotia with rye grass and by doing this the fruiting stage can be ignored. or you said that the 1st strain was cultured too much so would that mean that after transplanting mycellium to new rye grass over and over and over again the strain would fart out and become worthless? or can ya just grow alota nuts? its like a desert in fl so hunting anything. :frown:

hi goodie, those would be Copelandia tropicalis from hawaii. they are not recorded or really even known to grow in the state of florida, but i suspect i have found them before in the state of florida. highly unlikely though. post a picture of what mushrooms you are finding there in tampa.

Here are pictures of C. Tropicalis that <strong>I</strong> picked in Central Florida.  They DO grow here.<P> <BR> <BR>I used a shitty point-and-shoot camera, so the pics are out of focus, but I guarantee you that they are in fact Copelandia tropicalis.  I've seen them in at least two separate fields (about 20 miles apart from each other).<P><BR>Damnpicsnotworkingthefirsttime...<BR><p>

EDIT (8/14/03) Right, so... those pics ARE NOT Tampensis... they are most definitely Copelandia cyanescens.  Just clearing that up.

Here is a pic of a Copelandia cultivated from spores wild gathered in central FL. I don't know the exact species, could be cyanenscens, westii, or tropicalis

Those shrooms in that bag made 7 or 8 people trip nuts. And that was after they were boiled for 20 minutes.

By weight, I think they might be MORE potent. There are about sixty shrooms there. Since there are usually a half a dozen or so C.trops. growing off one medium pattie, and only 1 or 2 good size (3-4inch cap)P. cubensis growing from one medium pattie. I figure that 6 regular size (5-6 inch stalk) C.trops should make you trip about as hard as you would off of 1 or 2 P.cubensis caps (weighs out to about 1.5g).

This, at first, seems like some F**ked up thinking, but....

In my experience boiling seems to make your brew less potent. So, if 60 boiled shrooms (actually, the extract)made 7 people trip like they would off of 1.5g of properly dried cubensis, then they would be more potent by weight.

The pattie count may not seem right to those of you who have never had much experience in shroom hunting, but patties (in the wild) seem to only be capable of producing one flush of so many fruits (depending on it's size). And "no" I've never weighed the C.trops. Both times I've harvested them, we boiled them and drank it. Probably should've kept some, but I had lent my dehydrator to a friend. And wet weighing isn't that accurate anyways. If I go to that field again this year, I'll do a more comprehensive bioassayal.

What features do you use to decide that you have tropicalis instead of cyanescens? Macroscopically they are impossible to tell apart.

Sclorch, whuddo you fucking kiddin me????

When were those photographs taken????!

i found less than half a dozen tropicalis' in early october of '99, in sarasota florida..

i think i remember you talking about them in the mushroom hunting forum around then

i ate them not even knowing what species they were at the time, just knowing that they stained blue was good enough for me, just the fact that they didnt have a veil like a cube threw me off a bit.

And Sclorch, the reason you notice most cowpies only producing one flush, is because youre picking them out of the dung, not CUTTING them out of the dung.. ..cut them out of the ground with either scissors or a really long thumbnail. When you YANK a shroom out of the ground, its mycellium is destroyed by infection. so cut them out leaveing behind a good half inch of stem leftover and them the shrooms will be back in a day or two .

Workman, the answer to your question i believe lies inside the Color of the Cap. If i am correct,.. there are differences between cope cyans and cope trops.

have a good day
