triple beam vs digi
    #8614925 -

What do all of you prefer, a triple beam scale or a digital scale?
Why is it your preferred method of weighing?
pros and cons?

Ah, that explains it.  Typical know-it-all noob.  We get a few thousand just like you register here every year.  They try a few grows, fail miserably and then after a few months or one bad trip, go back to sniffing glue, never to be seen again.

We have a basic pf tek that's idiot proof enough for noobs to get fucked up with their friends.

Mycologists on the other hand grow for the love of growing.  They want to experiment with various species, substrates, and fruiting environments. They'll move on to isolate strains, attempt hybridization, and in general treat cultivation as an artform, rather than a chore that must be performed as a means to an end.  They'll work twice as hard for a ten percent gain, just for the love of perfection.  These are the ones who will isolate strains, not the dumb fucks who treat mushrooms as a drug, or even worse, a pathogen, as if mushrooms cause disease.

TB is raw as hell and sweet if you don't mind the bigness and transporting if it were to go any place. Digi tho is where its at cause I've seen some pretty big ones that can do almost as much as a TB if not more. I always wanted a TB back in the day.

and a TB is relatively cheap if found used... But with any scale u want quality so you know the shit is measuring out right... TB are pretty realible and would last hella long.

yeah,  i figured that a triple beam would be more reliable because its based on actual weights rather than a mini computer or whatever.
I dont mind the bulkness of it.

um... I have 2 digis that'll outdo a TB any day, they weigh
to the milligram, air currents affect the weight

if you're weighing RCs I recommend saving a bit and getting what
you need the first time, if you're in need of something with a
little less resolution they have a pocket scale that's still
pretty damned nice

http://acculab.balances.com/

I have the equivalent of this one, older model, same resolution
paid $300
http://balance.balances.com/scales/171

this one would run a great deal more than the acculab but it's a great scale
paid $1100

damn those are some gangsta ass scales, prisoner.
I've seen triple beams for $100.
IMO, paying $100 for something that is just about as accurate as those is much better.
Not to mention that air current doesnt really matter to me because i have a room that i weigh in has very little air flow.

never seen a TB that weighs the milligrams, only to .1 gram, a
tenth so it's far from being the same, anyway for that hundred
bucks, less even you can get to the hundredth of a gram

http://balance.balances.com/scales/633

for $300, a milligram scale

those are some pretty nice scales, for not too high of a price.
thank you.
for some reason i still want a triple beam..idk, for weighing some kind of bulk product.

if your items to be weighed are off center it'll throw the
accuracy of the scale, it still only reads to the tenth of a gram
which is fine for some things but other things you'd need more

it still costs more than the pocket scale

i have a pocket digi scale.
its an ip-100. i got it from my local record store/head shop.
It just kind of sucks because i put a nickel on it and it weighed 5.1g instead of 5.0
and id like something that weighs more than 100g. something accurate and not too expensive. A triple beam seemed to fit that description.

The Scale I Had
It was good for the size and what I was using it for nobody ever complained about sizes and its super cheap.

my scale has an automatic calibration system....but for some reason i thought it was inaccurate.
oh well. i appreciate the responses and will probably have more questions not too far down the road.

I found it to be pretty accurate it never differentiated from other scales the worst part about it is there isnt much surface area so I would get a ziploc container and just zero it out once the container was on

hm. i guess thats another upside to a triple beam scale.
i hate how my scale has such little surface area.

before settling on a TB or deciding on any scale, think through
what your needs are and may be, I have an ohaus I use only for
mixing paint, the acculab and the ishida are for lab use but
different applications.

Surface area played a big part when I had to weigh out ounces. haha
