Looking to buy a Digi Cam, I need advice

Which kind of Digi Cam should I get. I wish I could afford a nice DSLR camera but that is a bit out of my budget for now. But what should I get, what do you guys/girls use? I want a digi cam that has at least a macro function.

Ah so you are Thelemic. I started as a Wiccan myself but have now found myself as a Chaote / Chaos Magician. The Thelemic 93 would be the equivalent to the Wiccan Merry Meet/Blessed Be ( or Merry Meet, Merry Part, Merry Meet Again)

Yes, Canon Powershots are good value for money. The cbershots are ok too. For the rest I advise you to surf around on the net and read reviews or in camera-magazines. That's how I do it when I want a new camera. I have the Canon Powershot A80, the onlt one in the series with a screen that can flip to many sides - practical, and a Canon Eos 350D as a DSLR.

If macro is what you are interesseted in.. why don't you look for some cheap analogue camera and buy some macrorings or lens with it ? Developing film is maybe expensive but if the camera is cheap...

my advice is to don't get fooled by the number of megapixels a cam has. more MPs don't necessarily translate into better pics. try a few different cameras, look at reviews online and make sure it has the features you need.

I was most concerned with clarity of macro shots. I went to the store and held all the lenses against their info tags to see which ones gave me the best look at the ink printing. It worked well.

The guy also commented on the camera I ultimately chose (Nikon cool pix LS, $250), which had a good LENS. If you have a shitty lens, you won't get quality pictures.

Also, beware of Sony's, you have to use only their memory card in the camera. You can't just buy what's on sale.

I've got a nikon coolpix 5900. It is a great camera however it doesn't offer any manual settings. It takes great macro shots. I'll post some better pics for you later - I'm on my lunch.






It also takes great video - youtube has reduced the quality quite a bit. I get great sound even when I'm next to the speakers at a rave.

Its got an SLR style body with a Fujinon (just the Fuji lens with a nifty name) lens, but its got a 10x optical zoom which would definately provide for nice quality macro shots. And for 249.99 it's a pretty good deal. You can also set the ISO to 1600, which is just like putting 1600 speed film in a 35mm camera.

Good luck searching, there are more so many to choose from I just thought i'd share my favorite. We sell a bunch of them at the camera shop I work at.
