digi cam pic. settings

hello. In the past, with posting pics on the net, I'm always told the picture is too big and deeds to be downsized. So with every pic I have to go to my picture project and individually downsize them. Is there a way to set the cam to automatically have all the pictures come out to a smaller setting? I read my manual but couldn't find anything? Can anyone help this blabbering dorkus?

With most cameras (unless there is one that has a specific option to shoot reduced size photos) the mega pixel rating determines the size that the picture is saved at. The larger the mega pixel rating, the larger the image size.

Now you can adjust your settings up or down (within the limits of your camera) to shoot larger size or smaller photos, but as the chart shows even .3 Megapixel will give you a size of 640x480, which is still too big for most internet applications.

The best way to make them smaller is to use an image editor to reduce the size of your photo before uploading it. You can use anything from MS Paint to Photoshop to do it.

Another option is to upload your photos to an online hosting site like www.photobucket.com. You can create an online album (for free :smile: ) and it allows you to edit your photos after uploading them to the site. Really easy to do and quicker than using a photo editor if you have a lot of pictures to resize. Photobucket also acts as a hoster so you can simply copy the address of the photo on the site into whatever you want and it's automatically hosted.

I used to sell digital cameras at a small office supply store a few years back. We had a decent selection, but the thing was is that most people that shop for cameras at a place like Staples... well they aren't exactly technology literate... AT ALL!

I had to be VERY good at teaching them about the basics of a digital camera without making them feel inadequate. :laugh:  Ever try to teach a grandparent or someone over the age of 70 how to check their email?

It's kinda like that.


You'd be suprised how many people don't bother to learn anything about an $800 piece of equipment. I just can't stand to see that happen.
