What's The Best Air Rifle I Can Get For Under $200?

i was shooting a beeman rifle last night at a bonfire. it was real easy to calibrate and i was just having a damn good time picking off beer bottles.
i know you can get real nice ones, but i don't/can't spend more than $200 at this time. the one i was firing last night was just a one pump, you pulled down the front and loaded and pumped. i guess most are like that.
is beeman a good brand? i've been looking on this site http://www.pyramydair.com/cgi-bin/show.pl?cmd_rifles=show_menu
what do you recommend?

There are lots of options. Do you want one that uses CO2 cartridges? They're easier to use because they don't require a lot of pumping. Sometimes they're even made semiauto. However, they tend to have lower muzzle velocities.
Pump air rifles can have some pretty insane muzzle velocities for an air powered rifle.
Another thing to consider is do you want just a pellet gun or something that can shoot BBs too?

Goto cabelas.com.
Benjamins makes some nice air rifles they shoot .22 caliber pellets though...Can really fuck shit up. It doesn't sound like you are looking for that, but check this gun out. My friend has it, and I love shooting it. I think you would be really happy with it, and if you know anything about guns Remington is at the top of the game. There are air rifles going up to 700-1000 dollars, but for 200 you can't beat this one I promise. I own a benjamin, but I also hunt so the .22 caliber was a big influence in my buy.
Check it out:

If you want simple plinking of cans at relatively short range, look no further than a Daisy Model 840 BB gun for .177
The first site I googled up sold em for $37. If you are looking to shoot soda cans etc on the not too distant range, as in simple backyard plinking, its all you need.
Here are the specs:
* Model: Daisy Air Rifle 840 BB Gun * Caliber: .177 Pellets Velocity: 320 fps * Caliber: .177 BB Velocity: 360 fps * Weight: 2.25 lbs * Overall Length: 36.8 * Barrel Length: 17.5 * Number of Pumps: One Pump
* Length of Pull: 12.5" * Action: Single Pump Pneumatic * Made In: United States * Barrel: Steel, Smooth Bore * Finish: Molded with Checkering and Woodgrain * Front Sight: Blade and Ramp * Rear Sight: Adjustable Open * Scope Rail: 11mm Rail * Stock: Brown
* Trigger Pull: 4.5 lbs * Trigger: One Stage * Safety: Crossbolt Trigger Block * Warranty: Limited One-Year * Usage : Plinking / Youth Shooter
If you want to shoot very tight groups over longer ranges, you'd better pick a more accurate rifle.
But hey, for $37, who's complaining?

Haha, yes! I meant to put that at the end of my post. Goto walmart if thats all you want to do, and buy one. I mean if you want one that breaks at the barrel , and thats all you have to do then you will have to pay 100+ and order it. But if you are fine with pumping 3-10 times then do exactly what the man above me said. No need for expensive guns if you just want to shoot cans, birds, squirrels. Now if you want it for target shooting then you might want to step it up.

there is a cabelas around this area, i'm trying to remember where that was. i'll have to look it up.
see i wanted one with the scope already attached, that's another thing. like i want an accurate gun of course, but i just can't put the money out for something like that remington because i'd have to get the scope as well.
yeah, pellets or bb's - no co2.
the guy that had his gun last night got it from cabelas. i just like shooting them, maybe i'll just visit the store, wherever it is.
i'm moving out to indiana in august, i'll be at purdue/lafayette so there isn't much to shoot, besides college students and squirrels feeding off college students, so i'll have to go upstate to leave town and shoot around the train tracks. won't have a car, eh

Birds and squirrels?
How old are you?
If someone wants to shoot rats on his private property, they should use nothing less than a CO2-powered semi-automatic .22 firing pellets, and in fact much rather a semi-auto in .22 LR. Anything less is just animal cruelty.
As for plinking cans and the like, a Daisy 840 is fine. One light pump and you're ready to fire, magazine capacity 350 shots (BB)
Take two sticks, put them in the ground like so /\ tie the ends together and suspend a beercan from the loose-hanging string. With this setup you will be very certain whether you hit it, and you don't have to set up targets all the time.

Haha, I'm older than you might think. I for one don't go around shooting things that I don't intend to take home to eat. I just threw that out there cause I mean...A lot of people who get air rifles intend to shoot little animals like that.

2 years or so ago when I did tons of research on the matter the consensus I found at the time was that Gammo rifles are the best bang for your buck value hands down. For under 200 bucks you can get a gun that shoots as well as one costing $350 from pretty much anyone else.
Quote:

The Walmart Gammo rifles are made in China and of lesser quality than the ones made in Spain, yet they are the same price and look exactly the same. Bought one from walmart but ended up taking it back and buying a nicer one online for the same costs. Walmart does this kind of thing often with many of the things it sells. (demand they will only pay so much for an item so the manufacturer has to cut some corners to offer the item slightly cheaper to satisfy walmart.)
I reccommend either the Shadow Sport or the Varmint Hunter. This one here is probably the best value, Big Cat, its only $140.
I have a "gammo 1000", (discontinued apparently) which is just like the gammo sport except it doesn't include a scope and instead comes with iron sights. You will probably want to get a scope (like a fixed 3x) eventually as this gun is actually accurate enough to benefit from one.
