my dog got hit today *Updated*

I was sitting on my porch with my 4 year old bull terrier Sparky and he's roaming the yard like he normally does rolling around and what not and all of a sudden he perks up and starts sniffing around the sidewalk and the hedges on either side of the fence, I thought it was a squirrel or a rat or something and he usually just barks and jumps around so I didn't think much of it. He rounds the corner and I call for him to come back twice and I can sort of hear him trotting back and then I hear tires screeching and a yelp. I don't think I ever ran as fast as I did to get over there and theres my dog laying on the side of the road with this lady getting out of her car.  The stupid bitch was talking on a cell phone and I guess didn't see him, he's not that big.  He's still breathing but he's whining up a storm and theres blood all over him, I'm fighting back tears as this lady is apologizing over and over again.  I got him to the vet and they said they want to keep him over night and say its a total toss up as to whether or not he'll make it, they don't know the internal damage yet. I've been pacing like madman this past hour and I'm still pretty shaken up, just hoping he recovers.:sad:

UPDATE:  I just got off the phone with the vet and they said they're almost positive he's not going to make it through the night. I have the option of euthanizing him or praying for miracle. I feel like total shit and I dont know wat to do..

man, good luck with your dog, you sound like me where your pet is more of a part of the family than a pet.  HOpe he gets better, I had a cocker spaniel that was hit once, and it broke her leg and hip, and she made it, had a funny cast on and it was hilarious to watch her walk/run with it.  Anyways, they thought she had internal damage too, but we were lucky, it did end up costing over 2k though.

Anyways, did you get her address?  A way to get her the vet bill?

Yea she actually called me not too long ago to apologize and agree to cover the costs. I'm not generally one to place blame, but she was on a cell phone and I should have stopped him from going around the bush sooner than I did..I think I'm going to call the vet soon and see how hes doing.

i'm sorry man. i've been raising a pup for the past 9-10 months and can totally feel for you. don't pray for a miracle, know that he'll be out and if he isn't able to make it, it was his time to go. he'll be in your heart forever.

That's a horrible thing to have to endure, man. I'd give you advice, but I can't say I've ever been through such and ordeal.

m00nshine is currently vacationing in Maui. Rumor has it he got rolled by drunken natives and is currently prostituting himself in order to pay for airfare back to the mainland but he's having trouble juggling a hairon addiction. He won't be back for a long while.

Thats awful. If I was in your situation I would have the vet put him down.  Losing a beloved pet is really painful but watching a beloved pet suffer (when odds of survival are slim) is much worse.

God damn people need to pay more attention while driving. Especially women. It sounds so biased but I can barely stand to ride in a car with most of the females I know (except for my mom who drives so slow I can barely stand it).

Have you ever noticed that women never just coast?  They always have to have their foot stepping on either the gas or the break.  Its scary as hell when they're coming up on some cars stopped at a red light and she keeps her foot on the gas until the last 20 feet and then slams the brake just in time. 

Note to women: You can take your foot away from both pedals. The car will not break or stall or whatever it is that keeps you from doing that. It helps you slow down when you have stop somewhere up ahead but its too soon to slam on the brakes.  It will also prevent your passengers from catching a heart attack, shitting themselves or developing post traumatic stress disorder.

aw man, that's  terrible.  at least she stopped and was willing to take responsibility.

it's always hard losing a pet. 
my cat is 16 years old, and is slowly wasting away... her time will be soon. 
but it's always harder when it comes out of the blue.
i'm really sorry for your loss :hug:
