Cars are necessities, you gotta be underage and living at home.

I'm 20, I've been living by my own means for 3 years now - I ride the bus, share rides, and longboard everywhere. No insurance, no gas, no tickets, no hassle.

so you admit cars a necessary in this modern world, then why say something like that child?:whack:  You should have said the way most stupid white suburban Americans use thier vehicles is not necessary.  I only use mine to get to work and buy food shit like that.

First off, I'm not a child, I didn't write condescending posts to you, did I? And I think that I tried to convey that the people I am bitching about are the stupid white suburbanites you speak of, not people who actually attempt to find other means of getting around.

its not just about getting around rabbit, when fuel costs rise, everything rises, until we convert to sustainable, economical, affordable energy sources ESPECIALLY for transportation, you can count on the price of everything going up, from the rice, beans and other necessities you need to survive down to the luxuries such as cars and even toilette paper.  electric bills will rise, water bills will rise, trash collection will rise. EVERYTHING will rise.

so no, opposite of you, i do not hope it is $10 a gallon this time next year.

Yeah one time my friends and I caught a rabbit, skinned it, cooked it over a fire, and ate it, without any prior instruction.  We were afraid to eat most of it though, we stuck to the parts we knew were good.  I think I could survive an apocalypse.  It's the fat sedentary people who would be wiped out.

God that would be such a huge paradigm shift for all those people who live their lives believing in GOD and AMERICA.  They would literally not be able to believe what was happening until it was too late.

I don't think it will be true anarchy...the old institutions will still prevail for the most part I think, just power will be much less consolidated and people will be much more accountable for their own survival.

Ill join the underdog blkjkrabbit:

I too am glad about the rising gas prices. I nearly got sucked into being a vehicle owner last summer, luckily i realized id rather walk, bike, skateboard, commute, and organize ride sharing when needed - than drive. Paying insurance and gas, and being stressed the fuck out + slaving for the luxury are not fair trade offs for me.

In my case, the luxury was merely an inconvenience..

I believe, that beyond the temporary (perhaps 20 years) inconveniences for those of you who have accepted lives dependent upon vehicles, that overall - Having prohibitive costly transportation will instigate, overhaul, and reenforce alternatives. - these alternatives will include sustainable alternative energy technologies, functional commuter based communities, Technologies for diverse local production of food - etc.

Im not sure of the model for a new America, however steering civil design to a model with employment and amenities within a community is not a bad thing, and is infact necessary.

Change is not always pleasant...

Once these changes in Paradigm start occuring, they gain pace, and in a generation or 2 we will have a more conscious, and aware society, or at least one with less of a footprint and less of a dependence on depleating fossil fuels.. WE HAVE NO CHOICE IN THIS ISSUE.

Take into account that a HUGE majority of the worlds people do not have access to private vehicles. They make due with transit, and self propulsion.
(ok fine, you argue that these people live in the 2nd and 3rd worlds and do not have to abide by the responsibilities of a strict social order like North America...)

Then take into account communities in Europe, which are commuter friendly + where bikes are Common and enjoyable for all people, and not some shameful secondclass denegrate form of transportation. Same with trains, and busses...

I DO acknoledge the necessity of vehicles for reasons of trade + will humbly accept their responsible uses into my life. However, i do not feel that for persons, especially those under 25 - that vehicles are necessary.

If you are young - seek alternatives, to save the
frustrations felt by people like KriminalElement.

The way i see it, as a North American of middle class decent, WE ALL HAVE CHOICES about the way we live (save extreme circumstances) - CHOOSE NOT to live in the sterile and culturally devoid suburbs which are not able to sustain life. + CHOOSE to remove the elements of your life which you do not control, if they can be manipulated and hold you hostage.. at the very least, use vehicles responsibly and consciously at all times, and seek alternatives whenever possible.

Take control - dont play victim...

Theres hope at least, that if the slaves cannot afford to get to work, the masters will have hand in developing technologies to keep the collars tight.

sincerely,

a radical realist + leftist hippie-punk who is not afraid to dream of a better future.

Let the onslaught begin - bring it on!

Here's my take...
Gas prices will eventually go down, but not much.  The industry knows that we will pay $5 a gallon as it is, so, what would be the advantage for them to drop prices to say  3.50?  I doubt we will see that again, maybe ever.
Myself, I ride a crappy 150 scooter.  I get over 100 mpg, it holds 1 gal, and when I'm feeling squirrley, it will go to 70mph.  Downside is winter and rainy days.  Oh and looking like a dork.  Except when I pull up by some f350 and top my tank off for 4 bux.

Now, the real problem is that this is affecting EVERYTHING we buy.  And how bout a cost of living raise?  Yah right.

EDITED TO ADD:  btw, is used to live in a really cool town with bike lanes and paths through the city.  It also had public transpo.  Now I live in the asshole of america where sidewalks barely exist and lots of bubba's get their jollies by trying to run over bicyclers.  I rode my diamond back around for a few weeks when I moved here, and a few fucktards quickly put an end to that.

Because cars are not necessities, they are luxuries - and increasingly just status symbols. Unfortunately, the rich can probably dismiss the gas hike - sure, they may have to make some serious sacrifices like limiting their comcast subscriptions or getting the slightly less crazy cell phone than they wanted, but that's life - sometimes you just can't afford 900 channels and blue tooth. I hope that gas reaches $10 this time next year, and everyone gets the fuck out of their little bubbles and start acting like realistic people for a change. :rockman:

i need gas to get out of big bubbles
