an embarrassing classroom speech

in college once i gave a speech on the psychological and spiritual benefits of psychedelics, after the prof told me i couldn't do it. when i think back on it, it was totally lame for me to do so. its not like i had exemplary mental health or spiritual magnetism or whatever, and i realized it was hard for me to talk about so i just gave the whole speech as if i were reading a script. i would look around the room and saw some angry faces...some confused....some amused. however when i was done i swear i got one of the loudest applauses i have heard anyone from a classroom speech. still, i regret doing it.

i don't, i think i mentioned timothy leary's league for spiritual discovery and native american church....it wasn't particularly interesting from what i recall

gave me a much lower grade; said "topic not approved" on the review. she didn't say anything positive on it. didn't talk to me other than that. :shrug:

Something similar happened in one of my classes:

Some stoner-hippie kid who obviously hadn't showered or combed his hair in 3 days got up and did a speech titled the "truth" about marijauna. Words were spelled wrong, he couldn't speak, things were out of order and he said "ummm" every two seconds. Really looked like an idiot.

It was amazing how he more than perfectly fit the "marijuana turns you in a retarded-loser-stoner" image but was attempting to refute this image.

Kinda sounds like you did the same. It's unfortunate that people who try to support psychedelics always end up shooting themselves in the foot. Thanks.

Embarrassing classroom speeches usually start out with

"Today we will discuss the penis. Here is one." followed by dropping your pants and continuing the speech.

Alternatively you could speech about something harmless, then in the midst of the speech breaking down and cryingly declare your undying love for a same-sex classmate, who then turns you down :yesnod:

nah, i don't have a hippie/stoner image or persona at all. i just wasn't confident.
