I don't game, so I need very little "power". However, I just got a new comp:

2.6 GHz quad core
3 GB memory
500 GB drive.
16X DVD/CD burner.

Pretty basic. One thing I have realized is that if you are pretty much a "basic" user (i.e. non-gamer) computers have pretty much hit the asymptotic curve. I run the exact same setup as I had on a previous box purchased in 2002, and there is little difference IMO.

I'm really into pocket pc's/PDA's now.

EDIT: i also have a 15" gateway laptop. It's something like:

1.6 Ghz
500-1000 MB RAM (can't remember)
80GB HD
and 16X CD/DVDR

and at work I have a macbook Pro. It was purchased less than a year ago.

It's about 150GB with a DVD burner. I despise it so I don't know it's specs.

Yeah the only game I play is WoW, and I can max it out with these specs so I'm content.  I have yet to built my own PC, but when I do it's going to have an octocore.   I'm still a ways away.

It's starting to show it's age. I bought it in 2003 and have taken it apart about 7 times while on amphetamines. You won't believe how fucking complicated this thing is. It has at least 30 different types of screws and I have a 40 page instruction manual on how to take it apart. Way over engineered. Once you open one of these fuckers up you realize why Apple computers are more expensive than others.

I have a desktop too, but it's out of use since the video card tried to set my house on fire.

Mines a laptop.. I mainly use it for general computer tinkering (programming, hax0ring, pr0ning etc).

AMD Turion 64 (1.6ghz) x 2
120gb SATA hdd (7200rpm)
4gb DDR2 667mhz [crucial] ram
Radeon Xpress 1100 (128mb)
DVDRW +/- 8x (I think)
1280x800 screen (best laptop screen I've ever seen tbh)
Atheros AR5005g wireless card (mini pci)

and I built a RP-SMA connector into the chassis of the laptop so I can connect an external antenna.

for those of you really curious:
