2 hour conversation with Nana
    #8392611 -

I always feel so dumb after talking to an older person. Especially family. I talked to my Nana in California last night for 2 hours or so and after the phone call was over I almost felt like crying for being so backwards.

She has a way of opening my eyes to the flaws in my attitude towads people and life and religion and in the end I am left seeing right before me all the things I still dont know. I know nothing really and am still so young knowing it all is ridiculous...

But believe it or not all this started when I asked her about who she was voting for and that lead into analyzing all 3 candidates and then into beliefs which covered Sexuality and religion and family and children etc...

Here is where I learned a novel full, she talked about what if one of my 3 boys were to end up being gay would I stop loving them? I said no way, but that it would change our relationship. She then proceeded to tell me about asking my Grandpa the same ? and how she said what if one of the kids wound up being gay what would you do? My grandpa said What do you mean what would I do? Theyd still be the same kid I always knew wouldnt they?

I felt bad for saying if one of my boys wound up gay that it would change our relationship immediately after I heard this. This is just a small example of a thread that could go forever explaining how I learn somenthing every second and by talking to someone who is the most Liberal person I know, my Nana I listen... I feel not only stupid and bad at first but I use the conversation to learn from someone wiser than myself.

I use it to look at my own thoughts and feelings and then after seeing my flaws on the subject I change my habits to try to improve myself. Also my Nana is far away and wont live forever so I guess since I am getting older I ask her these questions about what she believes because I dont know.

You dont ask that stuff when your a kid. Maybe This is just for some reason something I gotta get off my chest and tell all you guys about because I feel a lot better when I find flaws in myself and commit to changing them, and its always from a older wiser person that I learn it. I guess always being told to respect your elders was for a reason. They know more than you.

My Nana being so much older really just shocked me with her open minded attitude towards society, over so many subjects she has such a relaxed idealism that it made me realise sometimes how close minded I am. I learned in 2 hours how to remedy it, that is to not judge or have pre conceived notions and not to live in a bubble in this world.

While driving my overpowered car around tight corners like a maniac all my friends yell out. Hey man slow down, we might Wreck. I reply, Shut up, I drive like Dale Earnhardt. They all look around at each other and laugh. Then one asks me. Hey wait, isnt he dead? Well yeah he is I said. Then I drive like Junior I mumble, while I promptly slow down.

I actually mean another thing other than what you are thinking I am saying. Get it? Good because that's what I meant".

I always leave shaking my head in disgust at the ignorance spewed by the elders in my family when I have a serious conversation with them. Be happy you have such a cool nana.

Yeah thats why I think I am grateful for having such a open minded Nana too talk to. Some peoples older Generations are kinda outta touch and outdated. What she says makes me look at everything different than I do and usually in a more fair way.
