Desktop: Share out the C Drive and all sub folders.
click start->run->type cmd hit enter-> then type Ipconfig /all and look for you Ip address write it down
Laptop: do the same thing to get your ip address are they the same?

on my desktop, in network places, i went to view work group computers, theres an icon of my computer(the desktop) and one of the rents (the laptop), so i double clicked the laptop and it asks for a password

you are not an admin on there laptop? shhhh sneak over to the laptop and type in "control userpasswords2" and run through that make your self the admin then try that

...ahh man i did that and it started asking me all kinda a crazy computer jargan that i dont understand...

make sure you click add then add a temp user. set it as admin and you never have to touch there account. make sure you delete the account when done. and yes run box
EDIT:crankey: you should have done that in the first place!!!

when i run control userpasswords2, it brings up a box saying:

You must be a member of the administrators group on this computer to open User Accounts. You are logged on as (computer name/my desktop name)and this account is not a member of the Administrators group.

ok restart the computer while pressing the f8 button until you get a list for startup items select safemode with command prompt then type in control userpasswords2 and click add give it a password and then select admin and you should be set. I'm in need of coffee. Do that and tell me if it worked?

dude, aparently the apple doesnt fall far. my old man is worse off than i am.

we got access to admin privledges, but even still we couldnt get them to work....

i need a pro HERE damnit!

Check and see if the administrator changed the log-in/password from the default log-in/password. You would be surprised how many people DON'T change it. If it was not changed, then your log-in name should be either "admin." or "administrator" and your password would be "password".
