Computer help needed
    #8345715 -

Goodmorning/Afternoon everyone,

i recently had my computer shipped to me from storage, and i need some help with a few things.

1. I had a nice sound system hooked up to it, but decided to leave it in storage. so now i have no sound, my monitor has a speaker strip(i think thats what it is) at the bottom of it. ive went to control panel and switched the audio source to everything it offers but still can get no sound. as soon as i plug in headphones i have sound...what to do?

2. i have a lot of music on a laptop that ive been using, and want to transfer it all to my desktop. i transfered all my pictures by cd, but i have too many songs to transfer by cd. i dont have a flash drive(mass sotrage thing) or a double usb cord...what to do?

3. i had a lot of porn...like a haunting amount...several encyclopedias worth. i deleted all of it(dont be mad, im fixing to sell the puter)and it went to recycle bin. then i deleted it out of there. how do i make sure its gone and off. im selling it to my brother, and of course he doesnt care about the porn, but i dont want my nieces being able to stumble upon it...what to do?

4. right now its set up that im administrator. i want to change it to where when ever my bro buys it, he can set up admin for himself if he wants...what to do?

-as you can tell im pretty computer handicapped, but i know some of you could completely rebuild a computer in your sleep. so help out a noob would ya?

aloha

got any friends with an ipod?? that would take care of the music problem. get a program called sharepod, throw it on the ipod and open the ipod as a drive under my comp and open sharepod to access it. if you can't do that, burn to CDs in mp3 format, you can fit a lot more or burn to dvd in mp3 format.

to make sure all the porn is gone, i would format it. only way to really guarantee (unless you were to delete like all .jpg's and .wmv's) and just make sure to clear all like your cookies file (can be done under your system tools)

the speaker panel on the bottom of the monitor is more than likely a really shitty mic.

when your brother gets the comp (i am assuming this is windows xp) i think you can change that stuff under user accounts (don't quote me on that)

hope that helps man.

i have an ipod, its only 8 gig tho.
if i buy a flash drive, ill have to get at least 80G

but i didnt want to spend that money if i didnt have to.

does cd's in mp3 format mean ill have to buy mp3 cd's?
another thing i dont want to spend $ on just to transfer several thousand songs

ill go do a clear cookies, but all the porn comes from a secure music d/l site, so there shouldnt be cookies right?

do you think then that i cant get sound from my desktop w/out speakers?

and it is XP, and i figured that.

thanks for the help. any other suggestions???

1: your speaker is most likely dry-rotted, get some side speakers and hook up to your audio-out port. To make sure everything is gone, wipe your drive and re-install your XP. That way not only does he gets a "clean" system, but he will be able to set access permissions for multiple people and set himself up as the Administrator. The install wizard will take him step by step.

the computer isnt old. its a 2007. and i take VERY good care of my thigns, i dont think it could be damaged(if it even is a speaker) all the way across the bottom of the monitor is has tiny little honeycomb(like a speaker cover looks like)

i dont have the xp software anymore

but i am intrigued how to wipe the drive.

you can use your current ipod with sharepod.

http://sharepod.uptodown.com/en/

its really easy to use, just have your ipod act as a storage device.  for the mp3s on cd, you don't need a special CD.

if you d/l'd the pr0n, it should also be fine it you just delete it, maybe do a windows search for anything that you might be into porn wise.

are you sure the speaker on the monitor is a speaker??  sounds like a mic to me.  if you have a sound card, you can just plug your headset up to it directly.

wow calm down dude this is easy. first go to start->control panel-> Administrative Tools-> computer management-> disk management its in the tree on the left hand side and should be open second to last. then what your looking for is if it has a recovery partition on it, it will be 5 gigs big and be in fat format. if you do, then look when the computer is starting up, it will launch the recovery partition and reformat your computer. for transferring your music, do you have a router? if so put both computers on the same workgroup right click my computer->opens system properties-> computer name-> click change->change what ever is under workgroup to WORKGROUP when they are both on work group, go to control panel-> Network places-> View work group computers and the laptop should show up. If you don't have a router, go buy a cross over cable, plug into both computers and follow directions from above. Make sure that your shared folders is being shared out-> right click->sharing-> allow access across network and allow network users to edit. now drag and drop music into the shared folder and wait.

1) If the "speaker" on your speaker is actually a speaker there's a good chance it will have a separate wire that needs to plug into the sound "out" jack.

If it is a speaker there should also be volume controls... or something that will control the volume, in settings on the monitor.

I'm assuming it's a newish LCD or flatscreen monitor here.

2) Someone else mentioned this also I believe but if you're using a wireless network, you can connect your computers on a network and make it easier to transfer the music files.

3) If all that matters is the porn isn't going to be accessible to your nieces, just delete it or copy it off first, then delete it.

That's not going to require you to reformat or anything.
Your brother can do it himself if he wants.

4) I think there's a thing to walk you through this, I haven't done it for a long time, but googling the exact steps might help.

I'd use ccleaner from download.com good stuff for cleaning, make sure you delete the torrent files too girlfriend found those before. For the speakers, make sure the cable is plugged into the green hole, I've had it happen before, check that its unmuted, if its using like realtek I think it is, open it up and look in there for mute as well, I don't remember if you said this or not too tired to look, also check the monitor menu for options for the volume I am positive there are options

oh sorry its network connections. open that up and on the left hand side you should see My Network Places, open up and on the left hand side should be View Workgroup Computers
EDIT: change the other computer (the one you can get admin rights to) and change the Workgroup to your family's last name. then restart and continue

its also saying:

on my desktop-"(my last name)is not accessible. you might not have permission to use this network resource. contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permission."

"the network path was not found"

on my laptop-"there is an IP address conflict with another system on the network"
