Ok i have 8oz of potato dextrose agar. I have no way of measuring out grams to mix it with the right amount of water. Can anyone tell me how many teaspoons or tablespoons of PDA to mix per cup or pint of water. Thanks in advance.

Buy or make a scale. You'll need it for dosing and a bunch of other things.

if you know the total weight of the agar you have ordered, then in order to obtain a small known weight, it is simply a division problem. alternativly, borrow the scale at the grocery store

are postal scales the kind that are metal and you clip what you want to weigh on them and then let them dangle and read the weight? If so i have one and those suck for measuring small quantites. I've measured out 1/8s on those before then had someone weigh them with a digital scale and all the 1/8s were either a good half gram over or under what they shoulda been.

and thank you everyone that actually contributed an intelligent response to my question instead of saying "buy a scale there cheap" which does absolutly nothing but waste time and space. And pleezer, FUCK YOU and your assumptions about me being an ass after reading one of my responses to someones post that did nothing but frustrate me more. Its good to know that your able to know me well enough to be able to make a claim on what I am. Also I'm glad someone asked you to be the judge of personalites around here. Eat a dick and thank you very much.

ROFLMAO!!! You just proved him right....again.... Learn some manners. Just because you're broke and pissed off it doesn't give you the right to lash out on others who are giving you valid advice.

sorry dog i didnt lash out at you I just said "great fucking advice" and i dont think that counts as lashing out. That just means i thought your response was stupid which in no way was an attack on you unlike what pleezer said about me. So actually all you proved was that your an ignorant son of a bitch. There now that is a prime example of me lashing out moron.

and how was your advice valid. Did it actually help answer my question in any way shape or form? Seeing how I asked the question and your reply didnt answer anything I think that constitues as a big fucking no.

First, my advice was quite valid. Buy or build a scale. Are you too big of a fool to realize that measuring the agar by volume is probably more inaccurate than using your piece of shit postal scale? Idiot.
Next time, try to diversify your vocabulary. If you come across as intelligent and not as an uneducated fool with a foul mouth, you might get somewhere in life. Either way, bugger off.

I am going to have to agree with rourke on this one. Even within the same container of agar (let alone different ones) the density of the agar can flucuate. Trust me, there is a reason they use mass measurements, not volumetric ones for most applications. As little as a 1% or 2% difference can (will) throw off the properties of your agar formulations. good luck
