i second that.
in answer to your question, sterilization can be achieved via microwave.

Someone feel free to to move this thread if they feel it needs to go in the mushroom cultivation forum, it's just that I was after reliable advice and not some bullshit newbie reply like yours JeRiKo1 ! You didn't even help in any way with my question so what was the point in posting apart from upping your number of posts ? Thanks for the microwave tip concretefeet, I couldn't find anything in the Shroomery FAQ about microwave sterilization so I'll try searching through the threads.

you should find some with a search. a lot of people are using microwaves for sterilization lately, and with good results apearantly.
ignore JeRiKo1: though while you may be right about his response, he did answer your question properly considering the form in wich you worded it.
good luck to you.

Shit.. I just remembered my microwave died the other day and I'm waiting for a new motor or something for the repair guy to fit.. I keep on putting food in there and go to switch it on forgetting it's dead lolzz!
I've had sucess with fractional sterilization/tyndallization with whole grains, can a similar method be used to sterilize agar?

What the fuck ? You asked if agar can be sterilized in a pressure cooker, and for sure it can. If you've wanted more advice you should've asked something like
"... or is there a better, easier, whatever way to do it ?"

In my opinion agar can not be sterilized without a PC unless you want to go with Tyndallization. A good way to test your sterilization is to make some agar and leave it uninoculated. If the agar is not sterile, most or all of the bacteria that escaped sterilization can be seen growing below the surface as tiny lense shaped colonies. Agar that has not been sterilized with a PC can be used successfuly for only as long as the bacteria remain trapped inside the agar. Eventually the bacteria will break through to the surface and, if they do, you are screwed.
