ID Request for a spider
    #8218451 -

Not the most common ID request on shroomery, but I'm hoping with the outdoor experience that we get hunting fungi, that some people may have also taken an interest to spiders. My sister woke me up this morning freaking out, so here's a picture:

I went back and took those last two shots for size comparison. You know how freaky it is trying to place a quarter near a spider of that size?

Looks like a huntsman, we get those every where in Australia they get as big as your palm... had one as a pet once they jump onto there prey, don't spin webs. they fill there prey with acid then suck out the soupy insides, bites don`t hurt either...

If that's a huntsman when I was ten I had one of those jump on me when I was climbing a fence. I dropped 8 feet onto the other side... lol

definitely not a huntsman spider (atleast according the Wikipedia), but very likely a Wolf Spider. In the last picture you can kind of make out it's eyes. there's a small rod of 4 and then two larger ones. might be 2 more but i can't tell.

Yeah, I'm pretty positive that it is. He's probably asleep I think cause about 40 minutes or so passed between the first picture and the two with the quarter, and first picture looks exactly the same pose of as the 3rd

you're in georgia, def a wolf spider no doubt. when i was in 5th grade a camp rid my fear of wolf spiders, told us to search for "diamonds in the grass," with flashlights in the dark. they're fun to fuck with if you find momma with eggs or babies, can get pretty aggressive

oh yeah, their eyes glisten in the light at night. I forgot about that. We also did the same thing in 5th grade at a camp. haha

I didn't know wolf spiders were toxic   I used to play with those when I was a kid.  I'm terrified of spiders now though, I had more guts about it when I was a wee lad.

to give you an idea of the toxicity of those spiders, I've been
bit twice by black widows, it hurt, it itched and it burned, I got
a little sick and a nasty infection, with the wolf spider it's
burning and itching, it sucks but it's not that bad

its like a bad ant bite that lasts a little too long. wolf spiders aren't that toxic at all.

just look out for hobo/brown recluses and you'll be fine. i agree that black widows are very overplayed as far as being dangerous goes. my friend gets a TON around his house during the summer time, usually hanging out close to the ground by the fence. we sometimes catch them for people who want them as pets....

yeah people here get bored and have a pet black widow...
