They're like bacteria in that both are single-celled microorganisms. True, unlike bacteria they're eukaryotes, but that much detail is beyond the scope of this thread and over the head of most of the audience.

Protozoa infect all vertebrates, including humans. This particular flavor is a paramecium similar to toxoplasma for which cats are the primary hosts.

Well, the diagnosis was by culture and confirmed by hematology assay. And the infection is responding to the antibiotic of choice for toxoplasma.

I doubt the diagnosis is wrong.

Oh, I have this Bolete similar to Penicillum growing on my bread.
I'm still waiting for links to articles.
I am a happy and proud cat owner, and I've never heard of Paramecia infecting cats.
It seriously sounds like bullshit to me.

I am a happy and proud cat owner, and I've never heard of Paramecia infecting cats.

I doubt someone with a veterinary degree and an additional four years of specialist training beyond that is bullshitting me. And you can look things up as well as I can, but I'll give you a hand:

Toxoplasma has nothing to do with Paramecium. And I'm not hostile, I'm just tired of bullshit. Also, US doctors have been known for not being the top of the class. Four years in uni don't mean shit to me, one could have as well smoked weed and fucked around for the time. If it was Toxoplasmas that attacked your cat, I'm sorry. You said it was a Paramecium infection.

Nice Kiwi ya got there Diploid!  I haven't had a cat for at least 12 years now, a couple of ours got eaten by coyotes when I was a little kid.  :undecided:
Now that I'm settled in a home for the foreseeable future, I think it's about time I find one to invite into my home. 
Been keeping an eye on the new arrivals at the local Humane Society, and I'm quite fond of these youngin's:



Hopefully I'll make time to go visit them tomorrow.  Any tips for a (practically) new cat owner?  Favorite links to valuable resources?
