Those gills look black. I'm sure they're Panaeolus of some sort, not Panaeolina foenesecii.

They look kinda funky compared to all the subbs ive seen. The colors are a little catching. You found them in a lawn or some grassway i presume?

Im only saying this cuz ive mistaken some dark spored psathyrella for subbs before.

But those are definitely subbs. in this case! looks like the subbalteatus season has begun!

No not grass i found them directly on cow poop thats why i was so shocked.. They are the same ones from the "Infesting my poop" thread.

Plus i cant match IDs with any other pans other than subbs or foes.. But People say they are pans...

look like subbs to me... the twisty stem especially, and foes don't get as big as subbs. They look on the large side to me.

Though, I've never heard of them fruiting from cow dung... it's absolutely possible since I've seen them in mulch alongside the cubes I found.

I also see a faint faint bluing on the base of the twisty stem one. That's about as blue as I tend to find them, with a few exceptions. It's right on the very edge of the base where it was picked... or it could be a shadow.

You are right, Panaeolus subbalteatus is the only thing on the key that matches these.

I remember, a while back, someone posting a huge subb haul from cow patties in Florida.  Must be a southern thang.  Anyway, nice finds Implee.:smile2:

I would say that those are certainly Panaeolus subbalteatus.

They grow from cow and horse dung in the southeastern United States.

In the southeast, if you find subbalteatus in lawns it is most often because there is dung somewhere in the grass. At least that is how it happens in Florida. I have seen photographs of peoples lawn-subbs in Texas before, and a part of me questions if they are a different species.

The subbs that I have found growing from cow dung in Florida macroscopically look, different then the other photographs I have seen.
The Florida ones are typically smaller in stature.
And the darker band around the margin is often barely even present.
Twice I found subbalteatus in Florida lawns, they were larger in stature, some of them bluing at the base of the stipe, and a trademark darker colored band circling the margin.

The subbs I have found in Georgia and Florida growing from horse dung match up good enough.

But yours seem unmistakable to me.

I think that there might be at least 4 different known species of Panaeolina, some macroscopically identical to foenisecii, and none grow from dung.

Thanks for all the replies homies... I guess ill see if they are active if i get a few more...

They are on the majority of the patties that are growing mushrooms... And ive seen them before in the past i just assumed subbs didnt grow on cow poop because everyone says its not so common..

But if they are active subbs then i guess texas is badass.. Last year i found a horse field that produced a ton of Cubes this year i might have found a field that produces tons of subbs... (knock on wood) Now i just need to find copes now

They look totally different than other subbs though :/ i wish i had a microscope or something to compare them :O
