Rockwool for casing
    #807969 - 08/09/02 10:15 PM (14 years, 3 months ago)

I've read a couple posts on here about the possibility of using rockwool for a casing layer instead of verm/peat or whatever else one might use. I have a bunch of rockwool hanging around from other ...eh hem ... projects that I could easily employ.

Anyone with experience using rockwool for shroom growing?

i would say give it a try. it reatins water and is anutritious so it fits the basic criteria. if you do try it let us know how it turns out.

Rockwool is very alkaline. You better adjust the pH first.

yuo really shouldn't eat rock wool. the reason it itches your skin is kuz the tiny glass splinters are stabbing into you. it doesn't take a genius to see what that will do to your intestines.

i suppose it would be acceptable as a base for underneath the substrate. i could even imagine it included in substrate mix as long as there was a casing layer that would be less harmfull.
