I bought some JPY back in '97 @123 per USD. I'm earning no interest on it. That experience kind of turned me off to currencies. But you're right, I heard of the Yen trade carry going on for years. Also heard that you should short the british pound and go long the yen.

As for me, I've dedided to stay away from currencies. I'd rather try capture currency appreciation via their equities, though I haven't bought any yet.

I agree that at this point in the cycle we will retest our January lows, and the dollar may have a short spat more to fall as the Fed continues its trend in lowering our core interest rate to help stave off a heavy recession. However, I also believe that by the time that happens, most of the credit and housing related troubles that instigated so much of the recent turmoil will have been disclosed and priced into the market. Keeping in mind that historical recovery from market downtrends have almost always been preceeded by a retest of the lows on lower volume, we are still holding a natural pattern here. Furthermore, given the comments coming out of the Federal Reserve, they appear to be ready to switch track and resume a rising interest rate environment in order to combat inflation without much pause after the current negative trend has been adressed - though they are still currently focused on the downside risk factors, hence why it seems probable that we still have to fall back to our January 22nd lows before a recovery can take hold.

dayum - the fed is cutting another 100 bp's this coming week? i need to start paying attention again - spring break got me all off track.

that's a hella big cut - more than expected
