But unless you know for sure what the mushroom is, don't eat it. You should always look for bluing, and if you don't get it, you should take pause.

Rules of thumb-

If you find a mushroom which
A: blues,
B: has a seperable pellicle
and C: has a purple to purple brown spore print- you're looking at a Psilocybe.

If you find a mushroom that
A: blues
B: has a black spore print
and C: is growing out of manure,
You found a Panaeolous

If you want an active mushroom, and are not a learned mycologist, stick to either of these two types of mushrooms- and to these two Identification criteria. No bluing, ehhhh....? better not.
