Do any nonpsyclocibins turn blue also?

I found a large mushroom that looks like a psylocibin in the woods on northern vermont on september 9. It had begun turning blue and did so upon being picked and handled. I was wondering if this could be anything besides a psylocibin?

what you found is a bolette, not active. its not even a mushroom, mushrooms have gills, what you have has spongy pores underneith.
large + growing in woods + bluing + vermont, + sept 9.... =bolette
= poisonous fungus.

That is quite a good question. This site is confusing when attempting to navigate, and I had looked for an answer to that before, but to no avail. Do any poison mushrooms contain pscilocybn or bruise blue? Are there any deadly look-alikes that stain blue?
Peace.

Like Mitch said, some Bolete species will bruise blue. Boletes come in many forms. Some have almost black caps with yellow pores(underside of the cap) and variation in stem colors. There are many boletes and polypores that resemble mushrooms, but have no gills.
As for poisonous gilled mushrooms that blue when handled, NO....there probably aren't any. I will not state there there cannot be a poisonous bluing mushrooms, but I've never heard of nor seen one.
Some gilled mushrooms will bruise a black color, which might fool some pickers into believing they've bruised blue. For instance, Hypholoma and Hygrocybe species.
I seriously doubt that a mushroom with a purple-brown or chocolate colored spore print, that bruises blue, has the possibility of being poisonous. Although, some Stropharia and Naematoloma species might make someone sick. They've got a purple-brown print and are very close cousins to the Psilocybes.
Hope this helps.
Stay cool!-Levi7.

A mushroom does not have to have gills to be called a mushroom. Boletes, HedgeHogs and other species do not have gills but they are still mushrooms!
Here is a Russula which has some blue in the gills and stalk. Most Russulas are edible (barely) but hte ones with an acrid taste are best left. Identificatin of Russulas is very difficult because they come in a variey of colors.

There is at least one species of Bolette that bruises blue, and it can make you pretty sick. Know exactly what kind of mushroom you've got before you eat it.
I did acid once, white boy gave it to me. He said "you gonna be trippin", I said Shit, I ain't goin' nowhere without my luggage.

The dangerous boletes are the ones with blue staining and RED pores (fading to reddish-orange with age). Many yellow-pored species (zellerii, chrysenteron, bicolor, etc.) stain blue but are safe, flavorful edibles. The staining occurs in fresh specimens, but fades as they dry. I have gathered & eaten B. zellerii for many years, & never been sick from it. Same story with Leccinum scabrum, a white-pored associate of Birch which only occasionally stains blue. Both these species cook up mushy & bland, but make excellent flavoring for soups & gravies when dried & powdered.
