Your friend is lucky. Eating any mushroom you haven't correctly identified is a foolish and dangerous risk. There are poisonous mushrooms which bruise blue, mostly among the boletes. The majority of mushroom species are unknown - we don't know if they are poisonous or not. And considering what I have seen some people think "bruising blue" means (I have seen mushrooms which bruise brown or black described that way), there could be greater dangers than just getting sick with vomiting and diarrhea. Eating the wrong wild mushroom can kill you.
There are a number of knowledgable people here who are very willing to help you identify any mushrooms you might find.
When you hunt them, put them (separated by species as best you can) into paper or waxed paper (not plastic) bags. Note what they were growing on and any trees nearby. Make a spore print. Store the mushrooms in their bag in the refrigerator - they'll keep for a day or three.
Then post a description (and photos, if you can) of your find. If your description (and photos) are good enough, we will identify your mushrooms. If not, we will ask questions to get enough information so we can take a good shot at it.
If you haven't, read the posts in the News forum about poisonings. Nobody here wants you or your friends to be the subject of the next report.
Good Luck and Happy Mushrooming!
