Different Casing(s) Question..
    #801428 - 08/07/02 04:35 AM (15 years, 1 month ago)

The Casing layer is non-nutritious. Soo.. what makes one casing material better than another?
Say like: a 50/50 Jiffy/Verm compared to a Coir/Verm... Or even plain verm?.. Would The Texture have alot to do with a casing layer being better than another?

Thanks

--you are correct- when it comes down to nutrients they are all the same (they dont have any and arent supposed to) but the texture is what you want- wet verm tends to pack down but coir and peat moss and jiffy mix (which is just a combo of the two) are all light and airy

Texture is very important, also the amount of moisture retaining abilities is very important. The depth plays an important role to. Just try out a variety and you will find one that works well for you. My friend sometimes just cases with chopped wheat straw* this is nutritive, but wheat straw itself has natural germ barriers, so it doesnt contaminiate easily* unless you over cook it and the germ layer gets melted off ofcourse. bluhoney
