Is the humidity and temperature of the terrarium more important when cakes are cased, or less important?

Humidity and temps are key to the entire process.
I've got nicotine stains on my fingers.
I've got a silver spoon on a chain.
I've got a grand piano to prop up my mortal remains

Equally important. The casing layer protects the mycelium from humidity fluctuation damage. The humidity should be 90%+ during pinning, but between 85-92% rH during cropping. The reason for this is because the high humidity provides a perfect environment for pins to form, but the more mild humidity allows for better transpiration which is essnetial to proper fruit body maturation. Cakes require a 95% + relative humidity to prevent them from becoming overly dry. This fact in it self is a flaw in the PF technique. Ps. cubensis grows (colonizes) and fruits within a wide temperature range. Paul Stamets lists the optimal humidity and temperature ranges for each stage of growth, (colonization, post casing / pre pinning, pinning and cropping). The optimum temperature for pinning and cropping is about ten degrees lower than the optimum ambient air temperature for colonization.
