another casing question sos stuff..

Ok, I have asked a few people and read a few different casing teks and lots of things seem to contradict each other.

Anyways.. my first question.

In the pre pinning phase is it important to make sure that the casing is in complete darkness? or is leaving it in the terranium uncovered ok? Hawks 50/50 tek says its ok.

If it does matter if I am supposed to keep the casing in complete darkness until pre pinning phase how long do I leave it in that phase?
How much of the top surface should be covered in myco?

Most teks dont mention anything about covering them up so light doesnt hit them.. and most teks dont tell you anything about myco coverage... however some people of noteable experience and knowledge have told me that I should cover the casings and only expose them to light when they are ready.. and they are only ready when some of the casing is covered with myco but it is not completely covered by myco.. because if its completely covered it makes it a cake sort of and that is bad.....

any advice is greatly appreciated

I am using the sea of shrooms tek with brf cakes using the B+ strain.

My raccoon's experience usually covera them with foil for about a week then checks mid week to see progress but is really not that important, some strains are faster growers though, when about 10-15% of mycelium is showing, He scratches and starts the light cyle. Pinning usually starts in about a week and the raccoon is joyous :) hope this helps..

if light does hit its really no biggie just not alot to simulate day etc....
