nope... and if it makes that much of a effort it means it's low on moisture.

I have heard of sterillized jars mysteriously growing cube myc.. but I'm sure spores are floating in abundance in every cultivators home.

ok so i gots some pics fo ya some r a bit fuzzy u can clearly see it growing thru the metal lid and 2 tyvek filter into another thru 2 tyvek filter and the metal lid of the other jar.
u will clearly be able to c that ther is no shortage of moisture and given the fact that i use moist verm filled core at the center of the brfc there should be no issue with moisture. the top jar where it grew from is a brfc and the botton is a grain jar of wheat berries. the last pic is of my incubator.

it didn't grow through the metal... it grew through moist polyfil and tyvek.

good job, i guess?

well yes it didnt literaly grow thru the metal but thru the small inoculation holes in the metal.and no im sorry there is no polyfill used all that white u see is mycelia. ther is no real reason they were upside down its just they way i put em down last time i check em

so has any1 had this happen to them or maybe have an idea y it happened. i was thinking it might have somthin to with the fae thru the tyvek or sumthin i dont really no. i remember seeing RR's shaggies grow out of a tub but that was a fruit if i remember right. i cant say i have ever seen mycelia this active b4 i mean to try to grow right into another jar. and they were pretty fast too i noc'ed on the 16th of jan and pretty much all r finished.

Mushroom mycelium, as will contaminants such as mold and bacteria, colonize right through a wet filter as if it weren't even there. I've seen it many times. That's why I advise to always keep jars right side up, and to remove the foil as soon as they've been sterilized. It's important to keep substrates and moisture completely away from the filter.

i c that makes sense. i just didnt figure the mycelia would grow down the bare wall of the jar to get to the filter. and it only took like 2 days for this to happen. so u have seen this type of thing b4. any particular species or just reall any and all types ryzo molds and fungus. yeh good tip, good tip, ever sense i started to remove the foil after sterilizing it has made a big dif. id say about 1 outta 20 contam rate. good to know thnx fo yo input

So mycelium reaches for new substrate because it is low on moisture? This must mean that will will get more complete colonization if we cut back the water content?

Stop experimenting half way through your first grow. Grow it to maturity, watch it, learn from it. Do this a few times then experiment with different ideas and figure out what works best for you.

that is a sweet pic there Roger. i noticed the mycelia between the tyvek pieces of my jars looked like a wood growing mycelia. it was kinda smooth and dark lookin much like the myc coverin the hat in ur picture. also u ever thought about "recycling" larger things like sofas or chairs i think that would make for a nice pic.

Roger, you seem to have some weird pics of mushrooms growing on all types of objects, I remember you posting a pic of mushrooms growing on 20 dollar bills. you should make a post with all the weird "substrates" you've used such as the hat and cash, id love to see if you have other weird experiments like that, cool stuff
