Nutritious Vermiculite?
    #7864461 - 01/11/08 11:09 AM (16 years, 21 days ago)

Reading on another site, someone posted that vermiculite was nutritous.

He writes, "By dry weight, treated vermiculite (like that commonly sold for gardening) contains around 10% nutrient based sugar-alcohols and lipids, which are distributed and consumed by the mycelium.

see patent 0134081 for information on vermiculite as a source nutrient and moisture stability control in mushroom growing."

Anyone ever heard of such a thing?
I've heard of enriched vermiculte (MG), but not a secret ingredient they just add to a product simply to make it better, and not bother to mention it anywhere.

Vermiculite is a mineral that is refined at extremely high temperatures. I can't imagine any sugars or alcohols surviving that process. Obviously, depending on the source of the ore, it might have calcium or a similar mineral, which one could consider a 'nutrient'.

Nice link on perlite and vermiculite. There's some good reading there. Highly recommended for all the new members.
