sterilize the vermiculite in casing?

I just read a simple casing tek at http://mycotopia.yage.net/casing1.html and it does not mention that the vermiculite used in the casing needs to be sterilized. Does anyone know if this should be done. If it should be done, how would someone without a pressure cooker sterilize the vermiculite?

Plain vermiculite (from my experiences) does not need any steralization.. Mine sits in an opened bag on my balcony.. i just grab a handfull and throw it over the casings and mist it down heavily.. works great for me. It's very unlikely that the vermiculte is gonna attract any sort of molds anyways. It contains no nutrients for bacteria to thrive.

I steam mine for an hour or so, but only because I happen to be cautious. But think about it, you've got a bag laying around open for a week or two, your hands been in and out of it a few times, it's gotta be loaded with contaminate spores.

just put it in a microwavable container and put it on high for about 10 minutes, that should be fine.
